Montreal Studio Set to "Reveal" the Next Title in the Myst® Franchise


SAN FRANCISCO - April 5, 2004 - Ubisoft, one of the world's largest videogame publishers, today revealed the critically acclaimed and best-selling Myst® franchise will launch its newest adventure, Myst® IV Revelation, this fall. Peter Gabriel, world-renowned recording artist, worked in collaboration with award-winning composer Jack Wall to create the game's immersive and ambient soundtrack.

Understanding their motives is the key to the investigation which will lead to a true "revelation."

So now the chatter starts up on the next Myst title. 2004 just gets better and better for gamers.

I hope the panning in the game is easier to control than in that little "example" they have on that page. It will be interesting to see how this game turns out. I'm glad they're continuing the series.

I hope they make it cross platform right up front. It looks like it's going to be good.

What exactly does "launch" mean? Launching is usually the term for starting something that is ongoing, like Uru was supposed to be. Or do they just mean they are "releasing" it then?

It's going to be interesting to see how they deal with the brothers coming back. I was under the impression from MYST that they were, how can I put this...toast! I mean the book holders that their trap books sat on had burn marks on them after Atrus linked back to the library to "take care of something"...

I think a prison book is a link to a place from which they can't return. However, if they had the materials to create a linking book to another place...

Really nice news - I thought it wouldn't be 'til forever that Myst 4 would be ready. And how could both of the brothers get out? Weren't they in separate prison ages and not getting along? Should be an interesting story and a great game

Just so you know, there is a puzzle on the site. If you solve it, you get to open the bonus page. Of course, in my "puzzle limited" fashion, someone had to tell me this.

I managed to solve it, though I don't know how. I thought I knew how I did it, but then, when I went to do it again, it didn't work!

The announcement I read said it is about a 'young' Sirrus and Achenar, thay haven't been trapped in the books on Myst Island yet.

Maybe it will include some of the dirty deeds they did to poor old Saavedro's family and world.

That sound track just gives me the shivers, GOOD shivers.

I think it's a prequel to Myst.
It could be interesting. How did the sons of people like Atrus and Catherine wind up so rotten?

Although when they say a "little girl" disappears and her "two brothers" are suspected - presumably the "little girl" is Yeesha, Atrus' daughter. She had just been born in Exile, which postdates Myst. So I assume Revelation post-dates Exile.

Note that in the preview video you see an apparatus with two books, one red, one blue...

But if that's the case, how did they get out of the prison books? As Trail_Mystic noted, Atrus burned the red and blue books at the end of Myst. At least that's what it looked like.

I'm waiting and seeing. As I understand it, a prison book is not a prison in and of itself but may link to a prison. If this is the case, it may be possible for someone to write a new book that is capable of releasing the prison inhabitants.

This looks wonderful so far! Exile is my all-time favorite and URU such a disappointment.
I haven't brought myself to finish it yet. I'm so looking forward to a new Myst game with a sensible interface where I don't have to jump and where I can save the game and where a reload doesn't seem to take forever...
And coming so soon!!!

My favorite series by a long shot. I just hope the mobility and save features are like Myst and Riven rather than Uru.

I hope they don't develop another game that has problems with DVD/CD drives, but one that has no jumping, etc and reverts back to the Myst games that so many of us love!

I always got the impression that a prison book didn't trap one in any specific place, but in a sort of limbo--the "between" of linking books, as it were. So I always thought it might be theoretically possible for a person to escape either through directed intent or mystic chance.

Also, to me the "little girl w/ 2 brothers" and "young sirius and achenar" taken together imply some kind of potential time travel paradox--i.e., perhaps something sirius and achenar did in the past affected the future in such a way, in which case we wouldn;t have to deal with the question of their getting free at all.

That's a really clever idea - something to think about. Also, the little girl, Yeesha? - even as a child she was most likely gifted enough to think outside the D'ni box. Certainly as an adult she accomplished things no other D'ni could do. Is she the one responsible for her brothers being in another game
