hmm... this might not be the answer you're looking for -- but i found the 7th Guest very scary. it's an old game though. i'm a third person junkie, so nothing else is coming to mind right now. emily

Amber, Dark Fall, Zork: Nemesis, Dracula: Resurrection & The Last Sanctuary (play these back-to-back as they tell a single story), and most especially The Blackstone Chronicles all reign as some of the best first-person point-and-click horror adventure games.
Phantasmagoria 1 & 2 and Shivers 1 & 2 both have devoted fan bases, though less universal critical praise.

Hey... I'm the suggestion guy!
You can find reviews of both Amber and Dark Fall down in the Boomer Reviews forum. (Yes, this is a plug. So shoot me.) From there you can find links to the Staff and Member Reviews, where I am sure you can get critiques of the others I mentioned.

If you don't mind a bit of shooting, try System Shock 2. If this doesn't give you the shivers, nothing will. Seriously, you can play this game with very few shooting around.
If you want a pure adventure, try The Dark Eye. Superb atmosphere, unique style and scary as hell! Not hard to come by in eBay.

Necronomicon was surely creepy. It was probably one of the first adventure games I played so I dont remember details but I remember liking it a whole lot.

How about the Dracula Resurrection and Last Sanctuary games? Great graphics and great horror stories......also first person. (oops, sorry, BacardiJim, didn't see that you had already listed those games at first!!) Plus Inherent Evil.....

Although the Thief series is not technically horror, you do run into the undead, it is first person, and the ambiance of the game will definitely get the heart pumping as you hide in the shadows hoping the enemies never spot you.
There's nothing finer than the rush of trying to sneak in the dark on some unsuspecting heavily armed foe with only your trusty blackjack as a weapon. Then giving him a love tap to the back of the head and hurriedly trying to hide the body before his buddies find out...
Thanks
fact is merely that which enough people believe, and truth is measured only by how fervently they believe it

What is Realm of the Haunting? If that is first that is a good game. Josie

Dark Fall is probably at the top of most lists in this genre, for good reason. I'd rank Amber up there, too, though it's spooky and haunting, not exactly "scary". I'm going to actively say "Shivers", both 1 & 2, though 1 is more pure horror. And as mentioned, The Dark Eye is also excellent.
