Hi Trudysgarden
Looney 4Labs and I and a few others are playing DD right now, there is a thread on the RPG, Action & More page. It is my first RPG and I couldn't be happier.
Its hard fighting in the beginning and you are weak but that makes it so much fun when you get stronger. When I was weak, I became determined and stubborn to get to the next level, when I was at level 10 or so I strutted around, thinking "come on Orcs, just COME ON", now I'm at level 19 and I mostly plan and outwit the bad guys and beat them from a distance.
I really like the learning curve, it is very immursive--I print out threads, and hints etc. and read them on my morning commute. The world is huge--if you like chatty, 3erd person adventures, DD is full of that, tons of people, tons of story, and you do have to think alot and plan. The music is great and the scenery is interesting. The magic spells are really fun to do.
You can be good or misbehave and the misbehaving comes in degrees, I pick pocket and steal occasionally, talk about pounding heart! Other people misbehave by killing more than they have to.
Yes you have to kill the bad guys but when you do they often drop loot!! including piles of gold that twinkles (I love that gold, I hoard it)so I get side tracked picking up the loot and hardly notice the little puddle of blood under the poor bad guy

.
DD seems to me alot like an adventure game with out the real tough puzzles "Got to get the Machine Working" types but with a lot more interaction and the puzzles are very story oriented, because the game is the story and what a complicated (in the good sense) and multi-level story it is and how much fun and a true true
