Googling this showed me posts on both the GOG and Steam forums complaining about this. It appears to be a common problem. It was discussed in a thread on GameBoomers a few years ago, which you can find here. There does not seem to be any definitive solution, but you can find suggestions if you look through the Steam forum for the game.

Thanks Marian, Now that I know the problem (thanks to your link), I went to GOG and purchased Runaway 2, on sale for only $2.49, so it's residing in My Library, not yet installed but as a backup just in case I can't get through the one I'm playing on Steam. I remember now that I played it years ago using my boxed version without any problems. It's still on my shelf, by the way, but I don't know if it would run on WIN 10. So I will just try to muddle through till Chapter 5. According to my printed Mag's WT. a little more than two pages to go to Chapter 5. WHEW! Happy New Year, Sandy

LOL Marian, I'll keep this one in my GOG library anyway, but I doubt if I will ever play it again. I finally managed to finish Chapter 4, so the "snow" is no longer an issue. After I finish it, my next game will be Runaway 3, also in my Steam library. I would like to purchase "Arkhangel", but I haven't been able to locate a text walkthrough, even though it's been around for months, so I have been concentrating on replaying a lot of my "Oldies" now. Chrome did not give me that message but Firefox did. I don't know why those messages are directed at that website, as there's nothing wrong with it as far as I know. I have used the program that you download from there, dgvoodoo 2, with other games. Apparently this has been an ongoing problem for this site and application; check out these Malwarebytes forum posts.

dgVoodoo2 has had problems with false positives for years. Here are some more discussions: https://www.gog.com/forum/blood_series/concerns_about_dgvoodoo_2_for_blood_2https://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?f=9...4fc13d8#p423067Short version is that dgvoodoo 2 is safe, but something about it triggers antivirus and produces false positives -- or claims things like "WS.Reputation.1" that aren't really a virus at all but are listed like one (and most users don't bother to look up what the description actually means). All "WS.Reputation.1" means is that the antivirus isn't familiar with the file, or it isn't a commonly used file. It's like saying some random person on the street is an axe murderer simply because you never met him before. The dgVoodoo2 website is also safe -- far safer than most websites because it isn't full of scripting and transparent gifs that can install cr@pware behind your back. But since the dgVoodoo2 website hosts the dgVoodoo2 file, and certain purblind antivirus are reporting dgVoodoo2 as suspicious, the website gets an undeserved "unsafe" warning. Consider that even games that are purchased and downloaded from websites like Steam and GOG have gotten virus warnings, even though they had no virus. People have had their game exe's deleted by antivirus. If you think most antivirus actually test the files they're flagging, think again. Many years ago antivirus had some use by checking file signatures. But now there are virus designed to have a different signature every time they infect, or hide their signatures with encryption, so antivirus can't depend solely on file signatures. So now they guess, and they often guess wrong, especially for less well known files, like those meant to help play old games.

Sandy, use "the latest stable version for regular usage" download link and extract the files to the game folder. You should also move dll files from MS folder of dgVoodoo 2 to the main game directory. There may be warnings from some antivirus programs when running dgVoodoo 2 but do not worry, these are false positives.
