I just purchased Dark Fall as a gift for a friend of mine (and one for myself, and one for my sister). My friend is an actual "right in front of me" friend (instead of an email friend) who is a sometimes adventure gamer. He was so happy, he looked at the game eagerly and asked me if I liked it. Liked it? I laughed. I'm sure I'm going to love, love, love it, and I really, really want to play it, but it's got to work it's way up the list! I've got, oh let's see, about 5 games loaded that I've got to complete, not to mention the ones I gave up on! And, there's all those other games, still in their boxes, looking at me remorsefully.

Some people just don't understand about BAAGS.

I know, I know. You are so right, MSZV. They just don't understand. Sometimes even fellow GameBoomers fail to understand.

I try playing every new game I get as soon as I get it. I played Dark Fall in July..I played it from the moment I put it in the computer, took me 12 days, but I finished it..Then bought a new game. If I dont care that much for a new game, it then goes in my pile of games to play later.Whenever I trade games that game usually goes in the pile of games to be played later, but when I got Post Mortum in a trade I played it as soon as I got it till I finished it..I only play one game at a time, so I guess I finish them much quicker than most people.

at least you have friends you can buy games for. i was trying to explain to my boyfriend the other day how i felt about finishing syberia. total blank look. i tried to get him to play myst once and he installed and uninstalled within five minutes. (turned out he hadn't installed quicktime so he wasn't able to see atrus in the pool...) he refused to try again. it kind of made me sad because he's such a mechanical person -- i think he'd really enjoy games like myst and schizm. but he's not even willing to try. he thinks they're silly. and he's always giving me a hard time about getting hints (he thinks it's a cop out) -- i'm like, you've never even played a game! you have no idea!

sorry, i'm just venting... i guess i'm just disappointed that there's no one in my life who's willing to try the games i like.

No problem with the venting Emily, and we Boomers certainly DO understand! We're here for ya' anytime you want to talk about your games!

I am so happy to see I am not the only one who gets totally involved with these games.
I have trie to share my enthousiasm with friends but, it seems I am alone on my island where adventure games are concerned. My boyfriend plays action games and just cannot understand the attraction.
I just wish there was more of a market out there for adventure game: the bigger the market, the more they create.

My husband and sons buy me games because they know that I really want them and enjoy them but,I don't dare tell anyone else in the family or friends that I like to play computer games because they would just look at me funny and wonder why am I wasting my time doing that?
This gameboomer family knows why and doesn't judge us but supports us in evey way

i can relate! all people i know play strategy or action games or don't even know anything about computer games. a friend of mine asked me yesterday if i was't afraid to become "addicted". (of course she assumed that all computer games are violent, shooter games)
actually i think i AM addicted..but not afraid

and...I am a total lousy game-finisher. I have at least 10 games i still need to play or finish. that's maybe because i need a game to be really good in order to play it all at once. (like Post Mortem, Nancy Drews ) If one of the following happens:
-i get bored/frustrated/stuck
-the game crashes more than 3 times in 3 hours
-i can't install the game without problems....
i throw it on the pile and take the next one..
btw what does BAAGS mean ??

Here I am in Bristol and I'm sure I'm the only adventure gamer in the city! Computer game shops here don't stock them, or just in very limited quanitities. I'm 62 years old and the only people I can discuss games with are teenage boys who come into the shop. They understand an obsession with gaming, but don't relate to my adventure ones. I've actually lent games to a few who've admitted that they've actually enjoyed them. (Just to try to enlarge the market a little.) But then, how are they to know about these wonderful games? They're hardly publicized or marketed.

Computer glitches, however, are a different story. Everybody has horror stories about these and I'm frequently asked for solutions. Me, who actually knows even less than they do!

Tell your boyfriend a "cop out" is pretending to try something (in his case, playing a game) and using a simple problem to get out of it and never trying again.

I personally don't know ANYBODY who likes Adventure Games. And I don't ever mention it to anyone, because the last time I did, (a couple years ago) to a co-worker, she looked at me with a very strange look on her face, and then said yeah, she bought one of those games for her son for Christmas. I asked her which one, and she tried to rembmer, but all she could think of was "Sega something or other". She couldn't even remember what she bought.

Whenever you tell anyone you play computer games, the first image that pops to their mind is of wild-eyed kids standing in the computer store with a joy-stick in their hands. Adventure gaming is a lonely hobby indeed.

Hopefully, with a dedicated body of adventure gamers like we have here at Gameboomers, and a body of work from developers and like I expect you'll be producing with and following "HARVEST," I think we may just be able to turn that perception 180 degrees!!!!

This thread got me to thinking--do I really want adventure games to suddenly become the "in" thing. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="confused.gif" /> The really quality adventure games required an investment of a lot of time and money, and I don't see any of the publishers willing to do this. None of them seem to be interested in restoring the genre to the standard that Sierra set in the early days...or Access did with the Tex Murphy series.

Judging from the prices people are willing to pay for these older games on eBay, it just might be a worthwhile project revamping these games so they could be played on the newer computers. Just a thought from a dreamer.

Oddly enough, my sister and I both know people who play adventure games, only a couple of people, but then again, at least a couple. The people I know don't keep up that much, but they play them. These are baby boomers, or "almost" a boomer, in one case. I don't know any young people who play adventure games.

As for other game genres, I think they are just fine. There are people in our very own gameboomer forums who play and love action, RPG, strategy (in all their variation) and Simulation games. I bought Morrowind, the only RPG I've ever wanted to play, even though Zanthia did not recommend it for a first time RPGer! I love how Morrowind looks, but I must admit I'm still overwhelmed. I may try some simulation games, but adventure games will always be my first love.

Now if I could only play, and finish them more reqularly. I cannot start another game till one of the ones I'm ALREADY playing is done.

I commend the people who play a game all the way through and then start another one!
