Do you mean your icons for your apps? Have you tried right clicking on your desktop . you should see view. click on that and then make sure there is a check mark next to show desk top icons. If that is not it the techie's should be here soon to help
Would that I could be the peacemaker in your soul that I might turn the discord and the rivalry of your elements into oneness and melody Gibran

I was just going to suggest what Winfrey said. Those aren't your apps, they are the shortcuts to your programs and apps. Right click on the desktop and make sure that "show desktop icons" is checked.
You might want to think about putting up your mouse and turning off your keyboard when she is there!

I can't help with Windows 10. It's a mystery to me and probably always will be. I had better luck with Windows Vista, 7,7.x,8.x, and in between. It either works or it doesn't. Cross your fingers.
Linda333, Your great granddaughter needs to learn to leave your computer alone because you can't fix it when it gets misconfigured. It's not broken, but it does need to be reconfigured to go back to normal.
Maybe there is a way to set the configuration to be "remembered" and later "restored." Draclvr would be more knowledgeable about that than I would.
I don't know which desktop shortcuts you're used to seeing on the desk. Are there any for games? Any for frequently used programs? What are you not seeing there that you used to see there? What has changed? I can check my computer, but it wouldn't match anyone else's. Especially not anyone else's computer Do you have a mfg.sdr file or hiberfil.sys file?
If your great granddaughter is "experimenting" with how your computer is laid out, you need to teach her not to do that -- and to teach her to accurately keep track of what she changes. You don't want her to be punished, you want her to be taught how to fix what she changes and undo the changes.

Excellent! At only 3, it's hard for them to understand, but like Jenny says, it's never too early to start! In the meantime, just putting the mouse out of her reach and turning off the keyboard would keep things safe!
