I have DVD software installed on my computer but I have only purchased 1 DVD game since I got my computer. Someone just mentioned to me that they had Zork Nemisis on DVD and I read another post from someone who had one of the Atlantis games on DVD. How do you get DVD games? I would like to take advantage of this feature on my computer but I have never noticed games stating that they are DVD (except for Schizm and DSOTM)

Swapping discs can be painful sometimes, like in Southpark's Dark Side of the Moon or Zork Nemisis when you go to the wrong location.

I've been waiting a long time. I think my DVD drive is worn out from waiting.

I didn't do it......and if I did I'm not guilty!

I have found a few out there. I managed to locate a DVD Riven - what a difference. Plus Atlantis 3/Beyond Atlantis 2 came out in DVD. Then Overseer, Zork GI (It came for free with my DVD drive) Silent Steel - a FMV Tom Clancy type interactive movie is in DVD, Point of View is in DVD, Dark Side of the Moon. Schizm, Lightbringer/Cydonia and then China (the old Cryo game).

A lot of these you just have to keep an eye out for them at CDAccess and other places.

It's very difficult to find games on DVD. Cryo used to publish some of their games on DVD, but they're kaput.

In the past I ordered a couple of the Cryo DVD games from SoftwareFirst, but I wouldn't order from them now. I'd wait and see if they sort themselves out.

I did find Dark Side of the Moon DVD at bigdaddysoftware. They also sell the CD version.

http://www.bigdaddysoftware.com/darsidofmoon1.html

I think you can still order both Schizm DVD and Lightbringer DVD from Dreamcatcher.

CDAccess sells Tex Murphy Overseer, which includes both CD and DVD versions. But the DVD version of Overseer is very fussy and won't run on many computers because it requires a hardware decoder card or a video card that has semi-hardware decoding (like some ATI cards)
http://www.cdaccess.com/html/quick/overseerpr.htm

Your best bet is probably finding used DVD games at GameTZ. Or ebay.

I have played all the games mentioned and do remember now that my Overseer came with a DVD and CDs. The DVD wouldn't work with my computer as I have only DVD software, not hardware. Sure could have used DVD when I played DSOTM with its 7 CDs and all that swapping.

I'm hoping that some future games come as DVD and I even like games that load everything on your hard drive.

Wow, that is impressive. I have never seen these advertized for sale as DVD (though I don't shop at GTZ). Maybe one has to order directly from the developer to get DVD versions though I ordered Egypt1, Egypt2 and Faust from DreamCatcher and I didn't see a DVD option. Maybe I missed something????

I don't know Burpee. I just copied someone else's list. (My disclaimer.) Many were probably very limited releases like Riven. Now you see them, now you don't. I do remember seeing Faust offered in DVD version just recently somewhere. Dreamcatcher might not carry it though.

of course, that's why DVD games haven't caught on... because you can rarely buy them at retail. rolleyes Riven DVD is the only one of these I ever remember seeing in a store.

Thanks everyone, I'm going to pull out my check-every-detail glasses so I never miss the fine print again smile If that doesn't work I'll get out the paring-knife glasses to keep my eyes peeled (groan) wave

I can buy a few DVD-games in my local store.
All the cryo-games: Atlantis 1 & 2, Pompei, EGYPT, Ring, Odyssee, China, Time Machine, Faust, Verailles, Devil Inside are multi-lingual (german, english, francais, nederlands, espanol, italiano, svenska).
The manual could be found directly on the DVD in PDF-file format for the Acrobet Reader.

I myself have Pompei for tade.

PlayingGamesInteractive sells China, Odyssey and Egypt Tomb of the Pharaoh in DVD format. I have DSOTM and Lightbringer on DVD, and it sure does make a nice difference to not have to keep swapping disks.

I do not think all of these are correct. There was once a Myst: Exile DVD planned, but it was cancelled - at least in the English version. Maybe the person was thinking of Riven DVD, which isn't listed. Schizm DVD, Lightbringer DVD, and Atlantis 1, 2, and 3 also weren't listed.

I would not recommend the Faust DVD to anyone. They mixed up the sound and the video files for the end sequence so you see Ending #1 while hearing Ending #2 and see Ending #2 while hearing Ending #1. It would be very confusing for anyone playing the game for the first time. And it's very annoying for anyone who's played the game before. I emailed Cryo about it and they asked me to return the DVD and they sent me a new one. It was the same way. I emailed them again and they said they were all like that. They wouldn't even tell me which audio and video tracks were mixed up so I couldn't copy the game to the hard drive and rename the files so they'd play correctly.

Jenny 100,

Yikes! I almost picked up the Faust DVD too. Thanks for the tip. Sounds like one to stay away from. For such a tightly plotted game, what a let down...

I left out several games as they had already been mentioned in preceding posts. The original list included them as well. I've never researched this list but thought it was a good starting point for those who might want to pursue it further. I'm still trying to get Overseer to run. rolleyes

Faust files found to be flipflopped smile That would be confusing, wow.

I have all but 4 of the games mentioned in this post. It's the new games coming out that I don't want to miss picking up a DVD for but it looks like it's not really popular. I'll keep it in the back of my mind when ordering and ask when I do smile wave

Now I know what to expect if I ever get thru my Faust DVD <img border="0" alt="cry" title="" src="graemlins/cry.gif" />
I picked it up early this year direct from Arxel Tribe in France. I 'think' it was about $30.00 US inc. shipping.

If by some chance your Faust DVD from Arxel has had the problem corrected please let me know. But according to the Cryo tech all the Faust DVD's had that problem. I can't understand how they let that defect get by them. It would have been so easy to correct.

The DVD drive in my new computer has been sitting unused, because I don't have ANY DVD games. I just finished playing Rhem, which I really liked except for the disk swapping. And it wasn't just going from #1 to #2 to #3, but back and forth many time with all three disk. What an improvement it would have been to be on one DVD! <img border="0" alt="woozy" title="" src="graemlins/woozy.gif" /> rolleyes

Sumac,

Have you played Schizm yet? I had the CD version but had to return it as there was something wrong, I can't remember. When I finally re-ordered, I got the DVD version instead. WOW, what a difference. I haven't played it yet, but it sure looks great.

Hi Scout, I did play it- the CD version. A great game! I just recently got an upgraded computer, so most of my games were for my old 466MHz eMachine, with Win 98 (which I am still using for all my old games). In the meantime, I keep hoping some of the new games will come out in DVD format. wave
