As much as I'm loving Zanzarah, I've put it aside for a few days as my copy of Divine Divinity arrived this weekend, and I'm totally and utterly hooked! I've read a lot of the threads on the game here, and found them incredibly useful, particularly the very long one. I need some advice, though. I'm playing as a warrior and am currently level 8. I've completed a few quests but am finding it hard to do any more as I keep running across creatures that are too tough for my wimpy warrior. I've done the catacombs, cured the crazy guy and gone to the barracks to arrange an escort for the healers. I've also met the guy in the inn and found out that I need to go to the castle (haven't ventured that way yet). Firstly, I thought I would deliver the letter for General Alix, but kept getting killed by a particularly horrible group of Orcs so I gave up on that. I then decided I should level up a bit and roam around and kill loads of spiders, boars and bees as they are relatively easy, but bumped into the dreaded drummer guy. Man, I HATE that guy . I suppose I could go back and do a bit of clearing up around Aelroth (sp?)as I've only cleared up a little around the town. Are there any drummers up there? Or should I go to the castle? I haven't solved George's murder yet, but think I might have broken that quest as all the healers have now left the town bar one! Any suggestions/tips most welcome! It's such a great game.

Hi,
Don't go to the castle until you are at least a level 25-30 because the dungeon you end up in is way to hard for you yet.
Clear up the orcs around the first area to get stronger for now and no there are no drummer boys in that area.
The healers do end up in the (I think) Blue Boar Inn. (Its the one not far from where Captain Alex is.

Hey Jules, I don't believe you can place things into barrels and chests, so you'll have to settle for a tidy mess on floors. on managing that with no problem. Magic is so right, leave the castle problem until towards the end-for more than one reason. And if you've read the back strands you know why. It's best to clear out an area all the way-or as much as you can-to level fast and know the way is clear and because some things are triggered by what you do. Don't forget if things get too tense, and you've dropped your other teleporter by a bed, you can zip out when you have to and recharge yourself. If you check out your maps, you'll know when you're done in the area. Have fun-this is a great game. In fact, so far in my short career in RPG this is my favorite!! Ingie

All good advice! I sure wouldn't go to the castle until you have done almost everything else (even though the characters in the game will tell you to go there) - the main storyline kicks in there. I would also avoid the abbey until you're stronger. Remember when you're walking around to press the alt key, and you'll find a lot of treasure that you can't see ordinarily. To get past tough situations early on, I used black potions to make myself invisible, and just zoomed by the baddies to do what I needed. That way I could solve some quests and level up without fighting when I knew I couldn't win the fight. I played as a wizard, but I have to say that the best "special" move belongs to the warrior, and you will probably find it to come in handy quite often. Glad you're enjoying this one too !

the orc drummers because of their ability to regenrate(or was it heal) at the level you are nearly imposssible to kill. you can try to freeze( with the freeze spell)them so you can runaway from them.
the game allows you to go practically anywhere yet your character will not be able to handle most places at ssuch a low level. I agree with the others, hold off on the castle until you have no more quests left. and for the abbey, wait until you are level 20 or so.
i played as a warrior but only used the special move early on.

You can actually put things in chests and they will stay there forever. Click on the chest to open it, and then just slide the things you want to store into the chest. At certain points you will have just plain too much stuff and will need a safe place to stash things. Because travel gets easier as the game progresses, you'll be able to find a convenient chest near merchants and possibly a place to sleep.
I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

Hi all, Yes you can store stuff in chests and barrels as mentioned above. I lived at the Abbey after I got strong enough to get rid of the undead around the area. I had so many chests and barrels and a Teleport Stone right in the middle of the courtyard which was nice. Also just to the north of the Abbey you will find a farmhouse with a bed which you can put into your inventory to carry around with you. This is a handy thing to have to sleep on. The bed doesn't weigh anything at all. The bed is big but later when you find the book of holding you will be able to put the bed into that in your inventory and get your space back in the inventory and still have the bed with you. You can also transport chests and barrels one at a time or maybe 2 depending how strong you are from one place to another. You would need both your teleporter stones with you leaving them in the 2 places you want the stuff to end up in. All of this may be to much for you to do or maybe to understand for now but save this info for yourself to have when you are ready for it. Most important enjoy the game and in time all of this will make sense.

Jules, I didn't play as warrior, but you'll want flying disc-really useful at the end, the enchant one-that's a warrior's I think, and I loved elemental hail-came in handy. But, you can pick and choose from any of the three paths. As long as you're comfortable with your method of choice-I used the Long Blade and Shield(looked so nifty)don't see any reason to change, except to give yourself a break and learn to methods. Don't overlook the magic. And lockpicking is real handy too. Ingie

Hi, I played 3 games back and forth. One as a warrior. One as a Mage. One as a Survivor. In all three I used mostly the sword or Axe. I had bow for each but the magic seemed faster. The freeze spell is the best to use but even better if you have freeze on a weapon. I got as many skills for each as I could. You have to uplevel each skill up to level 5 and when you receive skills points to give out to the skills...you only get one skill point at a time. You may use the skill point right away or like the game keeps telling you...you may save them up and use them later when you have more to give out. Repair will let you do it yourself and save money and also if you repair yourself you will make more money on the item when you sell it. Lockpick is also very important to get because there are many chests and doors in the world to open. Alchemy is another important one because you can than just buy empty bottles and make your own by picking herbs and mushrooms to use in making the potions. Pickpocket you only need level 1 for a Theives Guild assignment. Enchant item is a good one because you can then use all the charms you find to put on your equipment. Well thats all I can think of for the moment.

Sorry to bombard you all with millions of questions! Last night I wandered into the graveyard in Rivertown and watched the poor lady being kidnapped by Jake. I, being the amazing hero that I am, leapt to the rescue and started slashing and hacking away at the corpses. When I went down one of the pits, however, I discovered that I couldn't save my game. This freaked me out and I reloaded a previous save and went and did something else. Is this a glitch in the game? I did download the latest patch, but am somewhat technologically challenged so it may not have worked. Also, how do I get into the locked quarantined area in the town? There are guards everywhere, so presumably I can't just lockpick the gates?

You're right - that's a glitch; the only place in the game where you can't save. I thought the patch fixed that, but I guess not. And hey, bombard away! You've actually asked very few, and here we are just bubbling away with answers!

Keep going around the quarantine area and will find a backentrance that you can pick.

Is there some reason why the whole bar at the bottom of the screen (the one that accesses the inventory, skills, etc.) disappears every time I try to repair something? The only way I can get it back is to exit the game and start again...

Many thanks, Zanthia--guess I'd better drag out the old manual and see what I can find until someone comes along.
It's a good game, although I've had all kinds of problems. But I'm struggling on, so that should tell you something...

Thanks for the encouragement, Yapette, but I'm beginning to think I have some sort of mental block when it comes to the dark side! I can't get the repair function to work at all. I have the skill as the active one, and when I right-click on it, the cursor becomes the hammer (that's also when the bar at the bottom disappears), but then I can't manage to do anything. No matter where I laft-click the bow never gets repaired. But after your post, Yapette, I did manage to get the bar back by right-clicking down at the bottom. Many thanks! Now if someone could walk me through the repair process, with baby steps please , I'd be very grateful...

I did the same thing - right clicking on the repair skill minimizes the interface as a function of the game - and when it first happened I sat there scratching my head for the longest time wondering where everything went! OK, for the repair skill: You activate your repair skill like you're doing, and then left click on the item you want to repair. You can use the screen where it shows what your character is wearing, or some people find it easier to put an item on the ground, stand close to it, and click to repair. Some people aren't able to repair when an item is just in your general inventory. However, remember that you can only do a certain percentage of repair according to your skill level. Say you have a level one skill in repairing, you would only be able to repair up to 60% of the item's durability. Level 2, 70% and so on. If your item has a low durability, you may not be able to fix it at all, which could account for you not seeing any results. For me, it was just easier to hop to the weapons guy in the merchant area. Unless you want to invest your skill points to make you a level five in repair skill, which would let you repair to 100%, this made more sense to me.

My bow has a durability of 16, and it was only down to 10, so that's why the repair didn't work...

I wouldn't go too high in the Repair skill. it's handy, but as long as you can keep your weapons and armour usable, you're ok. Two levels should be enough to fix things 70%, I believe.
I personally found that specializing in one type of weapon was best, because you can add all sorts of special skills to that particular ability.
Both times I played this game I used quite a lot of magic - archer/thief/mage and warrior/mage types. If you are playing a tank, you can augment this with some really good ranged spells - pick a couple and get up to high levels. The odd summons are useful. But the first time I played I made the mistake of selecting a lot of spells. The second time I took only a few and got to the highest levels with them - much more useful.
For any type of character alchemy is useful because at higher levels you can make very powerful potions.
Last time I played I found the ability to poison weapons to be very useful. I took this one up to the highest level possible for my archer and watched monsters drop at my feet! Handy, especially if you are able to make high-level potions.
The one thing I loved about this game is that you can give yourself a wide range of skills and still have a very powerful character. Other skills I liked were healing, summoning, lockpicking and setting traps.
Also don't forget Charm (someone correct me if this is the wrong name for this - it's been six months since I played). This is not a spell that charms enemies - it is the very important ability to add those round crystals to your armour and weapons. This one is worth taking up to level 5 so that you can use the very high level enchantments on your equipment.
I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

Jules, thats great that you are loving this game so much.
frost is the best enchantment to have on a sword. it works on every enemy. frost on a weapon is much more powerful than the freeze spell.
i found that one point in repair skill is all that is needed.
the enchant skill Hagatha mentioned is the enchant weapon skill from the warrior skill path. this is a must to get up to level 5.

Oh Jules How wonderful, I looked everywhere for that sword, but never found. I was happy with the "Singer" sword, but still kept my eye out on that one. This game is GREAT and a wonderful way to get your toes wet in RPG. It's funny and challenging but not beyond an adventure gamers thoughts of catching on! Well, after moving and changing jobs and not posting for a while, I started reading about DD and decided to go get it. Wow! What a great game! Im just starting out and I'm in the first level of the catacombs but I need help please. Where are the 3 pentagrams to put the orbs in? I got the zombie from the female statue in the room to the south, and went to the room to the north from there where there are 3 candles on the floor and a book that tells about the pentagrams. Now what? Can someone help? Thanks! Andrea

Hmm, can't remember exactly where they are, but they are down there on the level you're on. You'll know them when you find them and they'll be added to your inventory. It's a big place to discover and lots of levels. Listen to some of the "boneyard humor" and you'll see a few others that will help out with the leveling of your character. What character are you playing as? This game is a delight and have a grand time. Ingie

Hi Luv2, and glad you joined us and are having fun with the game! The room with the pentagram (just one) is to the east of where you are. Since you have the zombie helper, be sure and stay away from the Orcs as you go down that hall, or they'll fight. Between where the Orcs are, and where that statue was, should be a way to go to the east.

Jules, that's great!! You want to save StormFist until the last thing. There are quite a few things after you enter the Dark Forest that should be done. Now, for the Assassins; in the room where they came after you is a secret pathway. You need to go down it and start killing and picking up some good things. Seems to me, it was like a bookshelf or clock or something, it's a panel on the right as you look into the room behind or beside the desk. Hmm, the stolen goods, that doesn't sound right. But I can't remember where that quest is solved. I think it's in one of the houses you have to go into. Someone will come along with a better memory on that one. I understand your love for this game! So excited for you about Morrowind. It's a long adventure and so truly named 'Not a Clue Club'! Although the founder of this group was perhaps carried away by Cliff Racers; we know she's around somewhere. We are missing our Jean too, last seen dancing somewhere, but I'm sure she and Nickie will return one day. Have fun, hope that was a little help for you. BTW, level 27 is fantastic, and you'll do fine, but once in Stormfist you're onto the main quest. Your teleporters are taken from you right away and you won't get them back for a very long time. You also need to go back to the first village before going to Stormfist. I had to leave some quest uncompleted, but I have a save game ready to do one day and will go back and do things different. Learning RPG for me takes playing and understanding there is a lot to it! I would save Stormfist until everything is explored and finish all I would want! Ingie

Jules, I was just reminded, your answer to the thief quest will be found in the sewers, you need to go through that passage way and you'll find a bad guy named Pedro. Ingie

Jules, you are doing great! you are high enough level to go to castle stormfist if you want to. i decided to wait until i had no more quests that could be done before going. if you do go now, you can finish your quests later but as ingie said you will temporarily lose your teleporters
for the merchant/assassins, find the head of the assassin guild and talk to him
for the stolen goods, have you been to the sewers yet underneath the town.

Thanks guys! I think I'll leave Stormfist for a while - don't like the sound of losing my teleporters I've been down the sewers but didn't find anyone called Pedro, so I'll go back. Am currently trying to gain entry to the Warriors' Guild. I've completed the first tests and have been given a quest to get a dragon heart from a castle. So much to do!

Way to go Jules! You'll find a lot of folks agree about DD. The last part was a pistol and kind of slash and hack all the way; although the final battles were kind of interesting. It will be so interesting to play the new games that will be sprouted from this one-Riftrunner should be the first out I think-I'm hoping Let us know when you start Morrowind-a lot of folks playing right now Ingie

congratulation jules! you are not alone in feeling the last section was all hack n slash. it is as if they were rushed to get it out. but since overall it was such a small section it really doesn't take away much from the game.
now you have 2 more games too look forward to--the DD sequel and Riftrunner. Hopefully riftrunner will be out by the end of the year.
Morrowind is another great game. If you thought DD was long, just wait to you start playing morrowind.

Couldn't wait for my Amazon order of Morrowind to arrive so I cancelled it and rushed out after work to buy Morrowind. I loaded it up and got myself all patched up last night and have just started exploring. I'm playing as a mage as I was a warrior in DD. The graphics are AMAZING. I love the night sky - so peaceful (though I doubt it will stay peaceful for very long!). The controls take some getting used to, though. I'm currently crashing into walls and all sorts. Guess I'll go and check out some of the Morrowind threads for tips.

Good for you Jules, The controls you will get use to one day, just take your time. I agree the graphics are so beautiful. Make sure you don't hurry and check out that first town and area as much as possible, you'll get a couple of quests and you're able to get some great advise! You are now a proud member of the 'Not a Clue Club', and you'll very quickly understand why! Have a grand time Ingie

Jules, BTW, just a suggestion you may want to start posting under the Morrowind group, or open a new topic using Morrowind as the given name start, that way all those experts will jump in and help you out as much as possible. Have fun, Ingie

Well, I'm sorry I haven't replied sooner but I work full time and find it hard to find enough time to play. My female warrior is at level 10. I have just met Gen'l Alix, and I'm having fun killing orcs after a long day at work. I have one question. There are some weapons and pieces of armor I've picked up that I can't equip. I can sell them and store them away, but their names or titles are colored grey. I am strong enough or agile enough to use them, but some of them don't show what the requirements are to use them. Are there some items that only mages or other types can use? Thanks for your help! Andrea

Thank you, Ingie. I know about id'ing things. This is after they're ID'd. The name of the item is in white, grey, green and other colors. I just wondered if that meant anything. I can't seem to equip just anything, even if my strength and/or agility match or exceed requirements. This is a great game and Gameboomers is simply the best thing on the internet IMHO. Bless you all  Andrea

So glad you're enjoying the game! The colors indicate the worth of the item, in order from white being the least, grey, blue, green, yellow, gold. What items aren't you able to equip - are they something that would need you to get a certain skill to use? Or, the item that you're trying to replace with a new item - did it up your statistics, so without it you have less than what would be required to use the new item?

L2T, Nickie, I think you're right about not having the skill required to use, I know a few things like that for me, but mostly had to do with Warrior stuff. I was a thief, so I could use a lot of stuff; but I remember now that some items I wasn't able to, though nothing is coming to mind. Big shock, I know Ingie
