Has anybody played this game, and if so, what did you think of it?

My eyes can't handle the graphics, but the reviews on Steam are overwhelmingly positive!

Yeah, when it first came out I hated the look of it, like it was still in the "concept art" phase. I'm not sure how playing it would be on my eyes. It's not on my wishlist but I keep looking at it (which means I'll probably buy it at some point). It sounds good but also hard, and not quite my thing. I was hoping maybe somebody here can share their experience with it.

Of course, it is kind of unusual game both in the visuals and the gameplay - still, I was waiting for it for quite long, being a fan of Lucas Pope and his previous unique and great game - "Papers, Please".

But in difference from his other works, "Return of the Obra Dinn" is indeed an adventure game, even if it is an unusual one. It is like a detective work with figuring clues, reconstructing the scenes of deaths and murders etc. But I would definitely recommend it to any adventure game lover!

Thank you for your comments about the game Iurii! I've looked at Papers Please often too, but have not bought it. It does look very interesting but I know for sure it is not my normal type of game. Sometimes something different is good though.

I enjoyed the game, oldbroad. Lots of logical deduction as you play detective. What you can explore is limited in the beginning of the game, but as you progress you are able to explore more areas. The voice acting is very good, and I agree with Iurii that the visuals and gameplay are unique. Just a warning that

Thanks for your info ergggo! I'm not worried about the content (I can handle that); it's that "logical deduction" I'm not sure about . However, I've bought many games that I'm not sure about so I imagine I will be buying this one in the future too.

It's a landmark title in the adventure game genre (at least that's what I think the genre it belongs to). Basically, you go back in time, look at "freeze frames" of past events; freely travel in them in first-person view; look for clues, which are hidden in plain sight or deductible. You solve 50+ murders, making this possibly a whodunit that ends all whodunits. You have to find out the manner in which they died, and who (or what) caused their deaths. At the beginning you only have a group photo of the people with no names. You have to find tons of info: their names, occupations, nationalities, etc. You are given audio clues via dialog, in which different languages are spoken (all subtitled in English). The plot gets silly near the end, involving some hocus-pocus mumbo jumbo that I don't much care for. But it's an unforgettable experience if you like the game and stick with it to the end. Clue-hunting and deduction are domains of adventure game fans, so I think they are the ones most likely to enjoy this. A YouTuber made a series of videos chronicling the entire gameplay process, dissecting every clue and explaining every deduction, which is thrilling to watch.

I played the game briefly (lets say for 1-2 hours) because we considered it a candidate for our yearly gaming session. I was intrigued, but not utterly
convinced. But we will definitely pick it up again soon. It really felt original. Can anyone explain to me the concept of 'bookmarks'. I googled and still
do not get it. Can I only bookmark ONE time ( = create one bookmark). What is the point of it? I did not quite understand some things. After I ended
the first chapter (or subchapter),. first side of the chapter had some stars or something (don't remember anymore), it was not clear to me what that meant as well.
I was also not sure whether I was completely done with the chapter or not. I feel the game should explain some things clearer, I did not like that.
