Sorry, I'm late to the party! Glad your Youtube search found a solution for you. I've played the game twice and never had any issues. Since this game is being offered for free at Epic Games and is on sale at GOG, I have a feeling a lot more people are going to be playing it, so I'm going to link to the verify files solution. Hope the game doesn't glitch for you any more! Amnesia Rebirth Black Screen Fix

I played more than an hour last night with no problem. I got lost in the caves and checked a video to find the way. I was close to the exit and saw that there was a colorful sunset outside in the video. When I actually exited, the sky had no sunset--no color at all. I checked other videos, some not on PC. All had a sunset. I don't know how to correct this. Any ideas?
Edit: The game came out nearly two years ago and I read that the developers made changes. Maybe that was one.

Pokey, if you got it from GOG, all the updates from the developers should have been applied. Do you have enough video card to play this game with all the graphic effects? I'm sure you've told me before what your computer specs are, but if you did, I forget!
Nvidia GeForce GTX 460 or AMD Radeon HD 5750 or Intel HD Graphics 630

Your 660 Ti should be more than enough for this game. I loved my 660 Ti and only upgraded from it about a year and a half ago! But you said you reduced some of the graphics options thinking that might help your black screen problem. Once you fixed that, did you put the graphics back?

I only reduced the resolution and put it back. I loved the 660 ti too. It served me well for many years. I took another look at the sky and what I saw was the dim sun in a small patch of blue sky. No red-gold color at all. The sunset is not important. I was curious what might have caused it. I haven't seen anything like that in games I've played recently. I found this on Youtube, might help with the black screen: https://playerassist.com/amnesia-rebirth-black-screen-how-to-fix/
