Once again I'm asking for your prayers, my friends. Last Sunday morning, my darling youngest sister was found unresponsive by her son. She had been sick and he couldn't rouse her. An ambulance was called and she was blue-lighted to hospital. There they discovered she had aspiration pneumonia, caused by inhaling vomit. They have since discovered she also has sepsis. Almost one week on and she is still unresponsive. She has had scans and other tests done but so far we don't know what has caused this. She is epileptic so it's possible she had a seizure but we just don't know. All we know is that there has been no improvement in her condition at all. She is breathing on her own but her oxygen levels are dropping, as is her kidney function and heart rate. They are talking about the likelyhood of putting her on a ventilator. They plan on decreasing sedation to see how she copes and they also want to do a lumbar puncture. Things are not looking good. It seems I'm always asking this of you but please pray for her guys. We need a miracle. Much love, Mary

Oh, Mary, what an awful situation. My deepest good thought are flying your way.
Gardens put to bed. Time for more reading and gaming.

Oh, Mary, as if you didn't already have enough heartbreak and sorrow.
I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

Hi Boomers, thank you so much for your prayers and kind thoughts. Things have been pretty unstable for most of the week. As of this evening, things aren't good at all. They discovered the cause of the sepsis, which apparently started in her lungs due to the infection caused by the vomit she inhaled. The acid from that has seriously damaged her lungs. She still hasn't responded to any stimulus and at this point she is being kept alive by machines. She is no longer breathing on her own and her kidney function, heart rate and blood pressure have all dropped alarmingly today. The doctors have told her son that they don't think there is any way back for her. My heart is utterly broken. Thank you all and much love, Mary

Thank you again for your kind words and prayers guys. Things got really bad on Thursday and Tricia's (my sister) son was sent for to be told nothing was working and it would just be a matter of time. She still hadn't responded to stimulus and was being kept alive by machines. They decreased her level of sedation but she was too agitated so they increased it again. Yesterday she had a seizure. Today they decided to take her for a brain scan which meant they had to withdraw sedation altogether. This afternoon, just as her son came into the ward.....SHE OPENED HER EYES! She recognised Jamie, her son, and gave him the biggest smile! She has been moving her limbs and following commands. What a turnaround from the weekend! They are now going to sedate her for short periods to allow her to rest now. I just want to thank you all for all of your kind words, prayers and support. I don't know what I would do without your friendship. I will let you know how she does over the next few days. I am hoping to get in to see her soon. Much love, Mary

Fantastic news! Thanks for the update. A reminder that the medics often don't know as much as they think and we expect...
