I inadvertantly bought a game in a steam account which at first I thought was a key so what I would like to do is download the game and turn it into a non-steam game that I could save as I believe the company I bought it from sells it again in a few months. I have asked for my money back but I don't think I have any chance

I'm not sure what you mean by turning a Steam game into a non-Steam game??? So you bought the game from somewhere else too? What game is this. Just not sure what you're saying.

Its called Miasma chronicles and I bought from Difmark, I thought it was cheap (I paid £14) but there are other companies that sell it cheaper

I googled Difmark and the feedback about them as a site and company is quite poor overall. I would be surprised if they refunded your money, but who knows.
