If you live in the path of totality you are not gonna want to miss this. Using this map you can check out the times of this event in your area. Enlarge the map, roughly find your area and keep zooming(+) in or scroll until you find your city. You can drag the map to locate. Click on your area. Times the eclipse will start, totality times start to finish and what time the eclipse will end along with percentage of the sun covered for your area will come up. If you are not in the path, outside of the total eclipse boundary lines, but don't live too far from center or outer edges go on a little road trip to view it. The closer to the center of path the better for longer totality times. It will be something that you will never forget. This is a one a "once in a lifetime" event. The next total eclipse for North America is in 2033 in Alaska

You will need solar eclipse glasses to view the sun until totality. Make sure they are approved glasses marked with an "ISO" number on them. You can take off the glasses and look at the eclipse during totality. If you do not have glasses to view before and after totality you are still in for a treat. It will start to go gray as the sun gets covered up by the moon. Thirty seconds before totality it will get darker rather quick, kind of like taking a dimmer switch and slowing turning it to off, a tingling moment in itself. You do not want to be wearing your glasses when this happens, just look around you not at the sun. Now you can look at the total eclipse without glasses for roughly 4 minutes as long as you are in center of path. Totality times vary, shorter, if not in center of path. Check times on the map, set a timer if possible for totality length. During totality you can take pictures. If you are outside of the total eclipse boundary lines you will only get a partial solar eclipse where you will need to wear solar glasses throughout the entire eclipse, still something to see

The Weather Channel will be running it live on TV and at their website. Your local news stations should carry it live as well. Nasa will be another site to view live

Thanks Orion! Great information for tomorrow. Like Marian, we won't have a total eclispe either but it will still be outstanding.

We will have 99% here which is close enough for me! Lots of people have traveled to SE Missouri to camp out and watch it. Almost all of the special viewing glasses around here have been recalled, so I will watch it on the internet, but will go outside for it. It is the eeriest thing to experience even if you're not looking at the sun.

Good thing those glasses got recalled Drac. You do not want damage done to your eyes. Bummer at the same time though. Read this:

Are Your Eclipse Glasses Safe

I flew to Indianapolis. My brother flew in from Phoenix and my other brother and his wife will drive down tomorrow from NW Indiana where together we will view it. Weather is suppose to be good here

I was gonna drive to Texas just NW of San Antonio and meet a friend I have not seen in 50 years but this front is suppose to be running over the state tomorrow so plans changed last minute. Hope it was a good move. I will catch up with this friend on a later date

Orion, I was not at all surprised to read that you are in Indiana!! I hope you enjoy a visit with your brothers, as well as viewing the eclipse! I will be sitting in my house waiting to see if I notice anything at all different.

It will be 92% eclipse here in Connecticut...but I wasn't able to get "eclipse" glasses so won'y get to watch it live.

It just was like when a storm is approaching.

Maybe the light when a storm is coming is similar, but this light has a completely different eerie look and even feel to it... colors are even strange. I read that our perceptions of red and green are especially different during an eclipse. Hubby and I did get to go outside and watch the whole thing with his welding helmet. Birds stopped singing, night insects STARTED singing, temperature dropped 6 degrees and just at the end the wind came up. The chickens all even ran to the chicken house.

Won't be another one in the Midwest until 2099 and I'm sure I will miss that one!

I did get to see the partial eclipse here...a neighbor had an extra pair of eclipse glasses! Amazing!

That was one heck of an event for sure. One I will never forget.

I was gonna mention a welding lense Drac but I thought that might be the last thing you would have lying around. I can see you both standing in the yard with a welding hood on looking up. I've done it many times. Had I been a neighbor not aware of the eclipse I probably would have called the police reporting aliens in the neighborhood. Glad you both were able check out the eclipse

The move to Indiana was perfect oldbroad. I should of thought of that idea to begin with. It worked out so well us getting together. My brothers thought of going to the Indy 500 to watch but I knew a park would be better. Plenty of telescopes, high powered binoculars and other viewing equipment would be there so we could get a close look at the eclipse. It was also really nice meeting those who had an interest in astronomy like myself. We had a blast
