Hi.

This is an edited version of my original post.

I decided to have a new play of "Skyrim Special Edition" - downloaded from GOG via Galaxy to my Win10 machine - but although the game plays fine, the charcter's voices are inaudible and despite my clicking to enable subtitles (via Settings/Display) as per the instructions, they don't appear.
So I uninstalled it from Galaxy and redownloaded it under just "game files" - but got exactly the same result rolleyes

I did play the game a couple of years or so ago without any problems, although it wouldn't have been via Galaxy and it might have been on Win7.
[However I can't try a download to Win7 as that machine is temporarily out of commission.]

I went to Bethesda Support - but the procedure for submitting a ticket was SO complicated I gave up !!

I'm hoping, now then, that someone here might be able to please help think

Thanks.

Mad help

I hope I can, Mad! I still have the game installed on my computer - Windows 10 - and will check it out.

I have the voices at the highest level and the music turned nearly off. I use earbuds though, so I can hear everything perfectly. I have hearing aids and can hear OK without the earbuds, but don't want to bother hubby, so I use the earbuds.

EDIT: So I was able to turn my subtitles on and off with no issues. However, I found several posts saying the subtitles can glitch. Found this one at the Steam forums.

Quote
Despite having them activated and working before logging out I have found they somethimes glitch. No idea why.

Try starting Skyrim, see if they are activating. if not go into your settings, deactivate them, save and exit Skyrim. You may have to actually shut your computer down for 5 mins as a secondary option.

Go back into Skyrim. Load your game, then go back into Setting to reactivate the subtitles and save. Check to see if working.

Hi Draclvr 🙂

Thank you, but I saw that very statement whilst searching for help on-line - and tried it.

However, it didn’t work for me 👎

I still only get ONE subtitle option to click on when there should be TWO.

Like you, I too keep the music (but also speech) at low levels and always enable subtitles when they are available - but with neither audible speech OR subtitles I am very stuck and sorely in need of help 😱

I have dialogue subtitles and general subtitles. I have to use my down arrow key to go down to the bottom of the list - took me awhile to figure that out as I kept trying to scroll down! It's been a couple of years since I last played it.

I really dislike using subtitles on the TV too because it takes away from the "immersion" of whatever I'm watching - I don't want to read; I want to watch! Same with games. I don't want to read my game, just play it. So I keep the speech up to the highest level and of course, my earbuds make it super easy to hear.

If you can't get your subtitles to work, the only thing I can suggest is to turn up the speech sound.

Oh, I haven’t tried “down arrows” in that actual place.

I can see Dialogue Subtitles and directly below that is an upside down V type sign - which I assumed was a Down Arrow. But all I’ve tried on it has done nothing.
So I’ll see if MY Down Arrow Key will work on it to get me to General Subtitles, which is the one I am missing.
🤞🤞🤞

No matter what I did - that arrow wouldn't work! The light bulb flashed on to try my down arrow and that did the trick. That's the one I was missing too.

Thank you very much, Draclvr.
I can’t try until tomorrow now but I’ll definitely let you know what happens - for me !! 😑

lol : Go to it, Draclvr !! lol

Well .... Absolutely good news .... I now have full subtitles in Skyrim .... So thank you mucho for the great help thumbsup

[I do think, though, it's quite ridiculous to " hide" that ONE option in that way woozy]

Anyway, thanks again grin
