Does anyone who played this game remember it being buggy? It takes up to a full minute to go "outside" from any of the scenes. It only starts up complete about 1 in 10 times - the rest of the time I have to CTRL/ALT/DEL to end task and restart. At least half a dozen times it has frozen on Quit and I've had to do a hard restart as the Task Manager won't come up or I get a black screen. I've got about 40 hours in the game, but it's really annoying.

I have not play it Drac but took a looked at "Most Critical" reviews on GOG . I also clicked "Owner Verified". There are quite a few upset owners here as well: Steam Reviews - Tick "Negative" under "Review Type" DiscussionsUpdatesSteam's GOTYEDIT: Steam reviews make mention of updates that for some broke the game having different issues with it ever since. Load times, lagging, crashing, mods no longer working. Bug fixes that did not fix existing bugs. Players are not happy with this "Next Gen" update

Thanks, Orion. I'd read most of that at Steam... just wondered if gamers here who might have played in back when it was first released 9 years ago thought. I'm kind of surprised it is still getting updates from Bethseda after almost 10 year! I got mine from GOG.

I've played Fallout 4 thousands of hours ( ) and I haven't noticed the GOTY version being any worse than others. Mind you, I've got so many mods installed I probably forgot what the base game is like now. I have noticed some weirdness at startup when the game opens in a small window behind the Steam page. I started to load the game from Vortex or Nvidia since those seemed to be more stable. And yes, some of the load screens are abysmal, especially elevators. However I haven't played it since the updates because I hear my mods won't work and my game will be broken. I'll bet the issues you're having are related to the updates.

From what I've read, if you have mods, they will most likely be broken. That's what it's doing at startup sometimes and my cursor won't work outside that small window. That's when I have to use Task Manager to end the task and start again. I may try using Nvidia to load to see if that helps. And yes, the elevators are even worse than going "outside!" I've got 73 hours in it now, and will keep on since I can't stay out of the game!

The Nvidia startup fixed the hidden window issue for me.
I happen to love Fallout 4, but these days I play it mostly because I really enjoy settlement building. The game is almost secondary now as I've finished it many times, always with my light-armour sniper builds.
I played Fallout: New Vegas recently and couldn't be bothered to finish it. I left it on my computer in case I decide to get back to it someday.
I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

Same with me for New Vegas. I liked it a lot, but hit a boss fight I wasn't ready for and haven't gone back in a very long time.

My Fallout 4 game is always on my laptop to go back to whenever I feel like it. Right now I'm playing Fallout 76 and will be for a while, so I can wait until things are sorted out.
For someone starting a no-mods game it's probably fine.
I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

Like me... no mods here. And it's been behaving itself the last day too. Load times between scenes are reasonable in-game... even the elevators.

I've played Fallout 4 thousands of hours ( ) That is an insane amount of hours and very impressive. Fallout 4 must be one heck of a game, very very good. It will be very upsetting to many if they don't fix this

Orion, for a nearly 10 year old game, it's pretty epic!

People love to bash Bethesda, but their open-world games are a lot of fun and endlessly re-playable. Except for Starfield, which I wasn't keen on.
I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

I have always kept my eye on the Fallouts. I have three of them. I started the first one a bit back. I got about 10 hours in and I'm guessing an adventure game put a stop to it. I have always regretted not taking more of an interest in these types I enjoyed Lands of Lore 1 & 2 when they came out and more recently The Legend of Grimrocks. Now there is really no comparison with these to Fallout's open-worlds of today but I did like them. Lands of Lore 1 is one of my favorites

So, I'm finally around to doing some work in a few settlements and trying to build a communications tower and power a large pump in Vault 88. I'm finding the Workbench to be really fiddly and confusing. I've been all over the forums and cannot figure out why some of my items stay yellow or white. In those modes, I cannot run wires between them and it's driving me nuts! Last time I tried, all of a sudden one of my generators turned green and I could attach the wire. Next time, nothing. It's driving me nuts!
Any tips or tricks I'm missing?? I did read that I can't cross another item or the wire will stay red.

There are also distance limitations or you might be crossing the frame or hitbox on an item that's invisible to you, but not to the game. Unfortunately, it's sort of the nature of the beast. There are a number of mods out there that improve the workshop significantly, unfortunately they are probably temporarily out of commission while waiting for updates to accommodate Bethesda's latest update.
“A world is supported by four things: The learning of the wise, the justice of the great, the prayers of the righteous and the valor of the brave. But all of these things are as nothing, without a ruler who knows the art of ruling. Make that the science of your tradition!” ---------------- Reverend Mother Gaius Helen Mohiam, from the novel Dune

I resorted to YouTube videos when I first began building settlements. They were very helpful to get the basics down.
I never bothered with Vault 88. It was just too darned huge and I was too lazy to do it justice.
I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

I've abandoned Vault 88 too. There is just too much to do there. I'm going to concentrate on one of the Coop Settlements and see where that goes!
