The Promo video has been released. I thought it was to be called Dreadwolf, but I guess not.

Hope the link works:

Thanks!

I loved all three DA games in spite of their different styles.

Thanks for the link, TM, and hello!

I pre-ordered this today, not that the wait will be long.

I see that it plays on Steam Deck. My 1 TB OLED Deck arrived yesterday. I'm looking forward to being able to play games while I'm sitting outside on my patio next summer.

EDIT: I'm going to give it a shot on the Steam Deck. I'm still playing both Fallout 76 and ESO, but it's nice to have a game to play on the couch as opposed to at my desk. I'll see how it goes.

Did you guys like this? It's been panned by so many gamers and the game returned to Steam after 2 hours or less play time.

Hi Debra! Long time...

I've put in about 10 hours, and so far I'm entertained. It's a much more linear game than Inquisition, more like DA:O and DA 2. But it is definitely a Dragon Age game.

The two main criticisms of the game seem to be that a) it's too "woke," which is entirely unjustified in my opinion, but that's what's putting some people off the game; and b) that the writing isn't as strong as the other games, particularly the party interactions, and so far I would say that is somewhat justified, although it's early days for me and I've only just hit the first party camp area.

It's very action-oriented so far. I'm having a blast with that, though it's tougher than the other games, at least it seems that way now.

I really like the character progression trees. The choices are many, and you can craft a character's skills exactly the way you want them. That's a real strength of the game.

It's very pretty, even on my Steam Deck at lower settings. So far, it's bug and crash-free.

Honestly, I like it, but it might be worth waiting for a bit to grab it on sale if you're not sure.

-----------

Also, critic reviews are all good to very good. Frankly, I would gently suggest that playing for two hours is not sufficient experience in the game to warrant a return and I think there is some unjustified hysteria about something I have not even encountered in the game so far (i.e. "wokeness.") The negative reviews bombs will stop soon and I predict that the game will be a success.

----------

Are you still playing ESO? I've been in there quite a bit recently.

"Woke" is just another boring buzzword right now. Some seem to search really hard for reasons to invoke it. Hard to see how it would apply in a DA game!

It's really sad that the game is being slammed for something so trivial. Apparently there is one encounter with one NPC that has people up in arms -- hardly something to slam the entire game for, but that, among other complaints about wokeness, is apparently the main reason for the bad reviews -- I've read literally 200 of them and they are all predictably about that and not much else. Take those away and what you have is a pretty darned good game that people are enjoying a lot.

The Steam Discussion forum for this game is horribly toxic and it makes me appreciate GB so much! yay

Anyway, I find myself looking forward to my game session this afternoon.

For anyone interested, you can find YouTube videos on the game that focus on aspects that some find disagreeable - with video clips. Otherwise, enough said.

Regardless, I am glad to have read your thoughts on the game, hagatha. It sounds like it could be good fun. wave

I watched some of them... and I still don't get it. I like that the developer called them "tourists," not real fans because the DA series has always been like that. I've only played one game in the series, so I'm not an expert at all! Maybe those complaining are the players who insist on voluptuous women with gigantic boobs and armor that doesn't cover anything? I follow a couple of pages devoted to the misogyny in gaming that are pretty startling.

Oh, well. All this being said, I believe I will be getting this game! I wonder how it plays on PC... I had issues with the first one with navigation. Did you have any problems learning navigation on your new Steam Deck, hagatha?

Draclvr, I've had absolutely no issues with the game running on the Steam deck, so I imagine it would be a pretty smooth ride on a decent PC. No crashes, no bugs so far. Obviously I'm not running it on high settings, but even so I'm getting a pretty smooth performance.

No, I haven't had any issues with navigation. The map is straightforward.

I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

I am doing okay, Debra. It is good to see you here. You are part of my great memories of back in the day when lots of RPGs were discussed here, along with group plays. yes

So, farther along,, I'm really enjoying this game.

My initial doubts -- that is was a bit too linear and wasn't party-oriented -- have been proven wrong. The game has opened up considerably, map-wise, and the party interactions have just started to be interesting insofar as your dialogue choices do affect the relationships and presumably the end game outcome. I'm having a lot of fun with it.

Still no crashing or bugs, or even lagging.

I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

The Steam deck is handling it well. I could look to see if there are any recommended tweaks, but the default settings work just fine.

Like all Dragon Age games there is a central camp area where you interact with your party members. There are several factions for which you do quests, and I'm starting to see that I've only scratched the surface. This could be quite a long game if you do all the side quests, which I always do.

Anyway, lots of fun.

Draclvr, if you had trouble with the maps and pathfinding in a previous game, you might not enjoy this.

I'm getting very frustrated by the maps myself; I have played for hours today and really all I've done is try to find one thing on the map. In the end I had to resort to a video walkthrough. The cities are fine so far, but this one area I'm in is driving me nuts! It's too bad because up to now I've really enjoyed it, but the constant going around in circles is not so much fun.

So, a few days later, I've finally figured out how the maps work and am back to enjoying the game.

The combat is tough, with nasty bosses early on in the game. Tactics are definitely required, and I'm learning how to dodge and roll using the Steam Deck's controller.

I do feel that the party relationships have been dumbed down too much. There is banter, but everyone is too nice. There's no tension in the party at all. Otherwise the game is thoroughly enjoyable.
