This game constantly crashes. I got it through GOG and did all the stuff their tech support said to do but it didn't work. I've been able to work around some of this stuff but now am at the point where I can't move forward in the game at the Anasazi ruins. I also sent an email to GOG tech support, but thought you would have some suggestions for me.
Am using windows 10 64 bit and adjusted compatibility to XP, etc etc. Driving me nuts.

Well, Broken Sword 4 DOES show it works on Win 10 (from your other post) but Tex Murphy Overseer only shows XP and Vista. I know that is not helpful. I have both games but haven't tried to play either of them.

You are having a run of bad luck lately, Melia! I'm afraid GOG is going to be your best resource. They may refund your money, but if it is only listed as compatible with XP and Vista, maybe not. I certainly wish you luck!

Have you tried this suggestion here? It might get you past this Anasazi crash.

I "think" that suggestion is for the VR version of the game. Are you playing it in VR, Melia?

I don't think any of the Tex Murphy games are available in VR. If they are, it would come as a great surprise to me that I did not know about it. For a while there was a new one on the horizon that was going to support it, but unfortunately the project got canned a few years ago. That post I linked Melia to was from 2007.

This is what made me think this was a VR version??? Maybe it refers to something else completely as I do not keep up with VR technology.

Quote
Temporarily change the VR Rendering from Hardware to Software then exit and restart the game.

I also found this at the GOG forums for this game which might explain it a bit more. You have to scroll down a bit.

Yes, that does make it sound like it has something to do with Virtual Reality so I understand the confusion. My son explained it this way (we are both big Tex Murphy fans): VR rendering is a specific visual effect mode designed to mimic the appearance of virtual reality but in fact is not. What it actually does is create a stereoscopic 3D effect such that you can use 3D glasses with it or a 3D monitor. Overseer was really ahead of its time in some ways in terms of its technology.

Hi Melia, if all of the above does not work, you could always download the Save Games from nicouzouf, he or she has plenty of SG for TMO and a few of them regarding the Anasazi areas, then you could try and go on from there.
Good luck.

Good suggestion, Starcom! I was just referring someone to that site the other day for Nancy Drew saved games. It is a great resource.

Melia, you can find the saved games here.

Drac, I saw several solutions that suggested gong from hardware rendering to software rendering. I didn't know what that meant but when I went to the video preferences in the game there was only one option... the others used DVD's and I got this through GOG so I presume that means software rendering for me, right? Anyway, it still crashes at the Anasazi ruins. I'm stuck.

Marian, I downloaded the save but don't remember what to do with it. Should I just put it in the Tex Murphy game folder?

Can you locate the save games file in the Tex Murphy game folder? That would be where to put it. Make sure you unzip it if it's a compressed file.

I found the file with savegames after looking around a lot. Unzipped it and will give it a try.

Unbelievable. It still doesn't show in the game's load folder.

Hi again Melia, when you unzipped the compressed file(s) you have to open the players folder and then copy

JENS.PLR file to your players folder in your game, then when you want to Load a game, you have to switch to the

player Jen. Then you can choose a SG of your choice.

again, good luck.

Starcom I figured that's what I had to do. But when I went into the game the only player name was mine. (What's an SG?) I'm pretty sure I got the right savegame folder. All my saves were listed by date - all of them recent. So I just added Jen's to the list, expecting it to show up in the game. I used WinZip (the trial) to unzip and it asked where I wanted to put the file.

Starcom, I have the game folder with the player's name (mine) in it. Am trying to figure out how to add Jen's.

I don't get it. I have the "players" folder; unzipped the Jen savegame in it and Jen's name showed up in the folder; went back to the game and clicked the dropbox that had players' names so I could pick the player I wanted. No Jen. I tried putting a picture of my folder with both my name and Jen's. It wouldn't cut and paste.

When you unzipped the nicouzouf zip file, forget the the JENS.001 file you see in the Games folder, Open the Players folder you see in that same zipped folder, that is the one : JENS.PLR file that you Must Copy to YOUR Players folder for the game you are playing, then you Should be able to see Her name when you click on Load games and you use the dropbox to get to her name.

PS: Maybe I am not explaining it right and hopefully Draclvr or Marian or.. can come along and explain this better to you.

I can't find a .plr file.
The savegames are set up from 1-somehting with the save I want being #16. I downloaded it, unzipped it, put it in the player file. It's not in the game.
