Every Doom game since the 90s was groundbreaking in some ways, whether in action mechanics and/or graphics. So I naturally have high expectations every time a new Doom comes out -- and I haven't been disappointed yet. The previous entry (Doom Eternal: The Ancient Gods) was also quite difficult. I had to play it in "I'm Too Young to Die" difficulty, which was already quite difficult. Bethesda, the publisher, was in another controversy with this franchise. The composer of Doom Eternal, Mick Gordon, accused Bethesda of not paying him for his work, the highly-touted heavy metal soundtrack of the Doom games. That has not resolved peacefully. Needless to say, Gordon won't return for the new Doom game.
