As shown at the 2024 Game Awards. Apparently Ciri is taking the reins in this release.

In Witcher 3, Ciri's fate is in the player's hands. So Witcher 4 may be at odds with what the player has decided her fate to be in the previous game.

Witcher 1, 2, and 3 carry over player's decisions from one game to the next. E.g. if a character dies in Witcher 1, he won't be in Witcher 2, and vice versa. This is similar to what is done in Mass Effect 1-3. But I suspect player's decisions from Witcher 3 won't carry over to Witcher 4, since the developer has said this will be the first of a "new trilogy."

To those who've never played Witcher games, combat is mostly about swordfighting, as shown in the trailer. So if you aren't a fan of that, it may be a deal-breaker. This isn't like Elder Scrolls where you get a wide variety of weapons and armor. Swords to the Witcher universe is like samurai swords to samurai. They are steeped in the lore and can't be anything else. You get some sidearms, like grenades, crossbow and such. But your main weapons are always a steel sword and a silver sword, and all the gameplay mechanics revolve around them.

Woo Hoo!

I am so ready for more Witcher, and happy to play as Ciri. My Geralt is sitting around his vineyard getting fat in retirement.

I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

My thoughts exactly, hagatha! From what I understand this is still a long time in the future, but I'll take any progress!

The Witcher must be one heck of a game. Over 730,000 reviews have The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt "Overwhelming Positive" - 96%. There is a lot of DLC for it as well, most of it is FREE

The Witcher 4 trailer is really cool

I think it's a combination of great story telling from a wonderful source, good graphics and good character development. They also approach the games from a more "adult" viewpoint. The main character has an issue with "grey areas" in life, which I think is something that everyone faces at some point or another. A quote that's used in one of the trailers, taken from one of the original books (highly recommended) pretty much sums up Geralt's view of the world:

“Evil is evil, lesser, greater, middling, it's all the same. Proportions are negotiated, boundaries blurred. I'm not a pious hermit, I haven't done only good in my life. But if I'm to choose between one evil and another, then I prefer not to choose at all”

“A world is supported by four things: The learning of the wise, the justice of the great, the prayers of the righteous and the valor of the brave. But all of these things are as nothing, without a ruler who knows the art of ruling. Make that the science of your tradition!”

I can't believe Witcher 3 is almost 10 years old; seems like yesterday. I played this game 4 years ago. One of the memorable aspects is that Geralt can't produce children due to his witcher training, so he indulges in a lot of carnal pleasures, which also sometimes bring him torment. In one memorable side quest in Witcher 3, a female fighter vows that she will bear a child for the first man who beats her in combat. To her disappointment, Geralt beats her. So he and she both get no reward, and Geralt is reminded yet again of his sterility and the painful witcher training that caused it.

I'm gonna have to take a look at The Witcher. Check out a walkthrough or two just to see how it plays. The closest I have come to The Witcher was watching the series on Netflix. Absolutely loved it. Monsters, magic and destiny. Great show based on the best selling book series by Andrzej Sapkowski. Thanks for the comments

Yeah, they're great books. I've only read two from the series, plus the anthology, which is where that quote I mentioned came from. If you like reading, "The Last Wish" is a great introduction to the literary Witcher. It gives you a good view into their world.

I know right!!! Gets even weirder when you look back at the first one. lol

*Sigh* I'm still holding out hope that they'll do at least a mini-crossover to Cyberpunk given Ciri's quote in Witcher 3. It'll probably never happen, but I can wish right? grin
