Regarding Stina, she did have her own mystery once, in Amber's Blood which involved her I think, grandfather. Don't recall the exact details now, but I do remember she was in bed after hurting her ankle.

I'm sorry Marian, but I have to disagree with using the "edit" button. I think things get missed that way.
Looking forward to hearing more, 8dognight! I agree with you there, ob. However, we are not supposed to stack posts, which sounded like it might be a possibility in this instance. If it is not, 8dognight should feel free to carry on the way that she was going to - I did not mean to confuse the issue. And it's nice to see you here, RebKean. Happy New Year and I hope it is a good year for you.

Most of Norrkoping's evil doers that come Carol's way may well be related, indeed, in one case (or perhaps more given the state of my memory) twins separated at birth.
Beyond that, these malefactors have a devilish predilection for puzzles, a penchant shared by other off stage characters whose conundrums bewilder Carol's clients. This could be genetic drift caused by a prolific ancestor and some geographic disaster isolating Norrkoping in the dim and distant past. A more likely explanation is educational similarities. "Today, students, we study the enigma machine. Please, turn to invisibly numbered page 2121. You will find the table of contents under a bridge." I love that about fictional Norrkoping's educational system which obviously only lasted a couple of generations. Now a grateful city must turn to Carol to root out the clues left by progenitors. This explains how she can pay the rent on that gem of an apartment.
Carol's world is quotidian and simultaneously mythic which, I think, explains much of its appeal. The mythic journey of continuously built solutions is the same every-day reality created by Mikael's extraordinary photographs of landscapes and uplifting architecture, graffiti and long abandoned labyrinthine industrial or domestic sites. I am grateful that Mikael knows not to overdo the sequences that can turn a small apartment into a bewildering maze. The older I get the easier I am to confuse.

Oh, and thanks RebKean for the tip on Amber's Blood.
I haven't had a Carol Reed festival for a few years now so I think that will be next on my list.
