Around 46 years ago I lived out on the North Yorkshire Moors and had a newsagent shop a few miles away in the seaside town of Whitby, So, very early in the mornings, I had to make the drive across the moors to open the shop, take in the newspapers and magazines etc. and sort out those for delivery, ready for the boys to collect.
One particularly badly foggy morning I reached the large roundabout just outside Whitby and started to drive slowly round it - when out of the murk and gloom saw a HUGE American car coming right towards me on MY side of the road 😱
YIKES !!!!
We both managed to stop in time to prevent a collision and got out of our vehicles - whereupon the American lady driver was rather bluntly reminded which side of the road she should be using 🙄
She shamefacedly apologised profusely and we then returned to our vehicles and continued our journeys.
But that first meeting of mine with an actual American is something I will never forget 🤭

I agree with oldbroad... love the "rather bluntly!"

The next actual Americans I met were the ones who thought my cottage was a quaint cafe - and which encounter I described quite a while ago here at Gameboomers 🤭

As there was no risk to life or limb, the details of my “cafe” Americans are not seared as deeply into my memory as my “roundabout” American - so I’ll have to try and find the post I made way back when 🤞

I searched all your posts and the only mention of a cafe was in Sept 2013 and it was a joke posting. Unless you think it could have been elsewhere. I only searched Mixed Bags. Funny roundabout story, I personally hate them!

Mad, Speaking of Whitby, I live in Whitby Ontario. One year when my husband--who is English --I am Scottish, and I went back home for a visit, his brother took us to Whitby, and, of course, we had to have fish and chips for supper.

Doreen Ahhhh …. Whitby fish and chips are considered to be the finest in the world. Yes Sir !! 🌟🌟 ****** That was a very gentle reprimand from your wife, soot. (Unlike the one I delivered to my Historic American 🙄)
