Hi.

I've been happily playing Murder in the Abbey on and off for some time, on my WinXP3 machine, but last week the game suddenly crashed and I couldn't get out of it and had to just switch the machine off eek

And when I started it up again I could only get as far as the XP Welcome Screen, where everything froze again.

My Son-in-Law had a quick look for me and found the mouse had conked and replaced it with one of my (SP2) spares.

Well, today is the first chance I've had to see if the game will now work but it won't.
I get a message that says it won't initialise rolleyes

So, I've uninstalled it and reinstalled it - only to get that same message headscratch

My Son-in:Law won't be able to look again for a long time so I wondered if anyone here might have any suggestions ??

If it's any help my XP specs. from old notes are :-

WinXP Home SP3
AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3000+ MMX 3DNow ~ 2.0GHz
ATI Radeon Sapphire HD 3650 AGP
SB Live! 24-bit
2048MB RAM
DirectX 9.c

It almost sound like something got corrupted. Did you uninstall using something like Revo Uninstaller which removes all traces?

I used Glary Utilities Draclvr. Which does an excellent job.

It turns out some files ( required in olden times lol ) had done a bunk and were nowhere to be found. Not anywhere that I felt capable of dealing with, anyway !!

So I dug out my external DVD drive and plugged it into my Win10 machine.
And that solved the issue bravo as it detected the missing files from a past Windows Update and installed them. And now the game is running perfectly again hamster

Oh, good! Yes, I've been using Glary Utilities on your SIL's recommendation too!

Just in case I didn’t make it clear, the old game is now running in Win10 👍
