I played for hours on my PC yesterday with Cloud saves turned off on both the game and Steam. I uninstalled BG3 from the Deck before playing. Still no game saves visible on PC. Obviously they exist. I just can't find them. There is a data file in my BG3 folder, and there are files in it, but they are not game save files. I've got hidden files visible, so they should should show up. And it's weird that the Cloud for BG3 is full because a couple of weeks ago I deleted most of the saves from my computer, so the saves were there at one point. Also, I only have about 30 game saves left to load. Most peculiar.

The only game on my computer that does have saves in its folder is Morrowind, which has never been loaded onto my Steam Deck because it's not compatible. Every other game that I've played on Deck is experiencing the same issue, even though they have Cloud synced.

At any rate, I got through that brain puzzle in Moonrise down in the Illithid breeding ground without cheating and Thorn is now dust. I can play on my PC, but I was enjoying the freedom of not having to be in my study.

I decided to make a run for xp and loot back to the creche and pick off the rest of the Githyanki after getting the prisoners out of moonrise. Also hit the spider den to eliminate the Matriarch
and get the necromantic tome gem.
Glad her loot is just so-so, ended up knocking her into one of the irretrievable chasms. That's the only drawback to the Eldritch Blast/Repelling Blast. Love using it, but have lost a couple loot providers to the depths by not lining it up just right. I forget that it can be toggled. My Warlock/Ranger/Sorcerer is doing really well so far. Made short work of those early game Githyanki.

Next we go back for the gaunlet and then off to find the duke.

I shoved Balthazar off a ledge by mistake but it was ever so satisfying, especially as his loot is pretty lacklustre.

I've just arrived in the city outskirts and am preparing for the next phase of the game, which I'll be tackling this weekend.

Useful though my bard is, I'm thinking that next time I should have a more fight-centric character, because at the moment I use Lazael and Karlach together; at level 9 they're both beasts in combat. That leaves me with only one party slot to play with.

I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

I have a monk build idling in the background that I may give a go after this run. Don't want to get too burned out though, not with Patch 8 due out sometime this year. So many new subclasses *insert anticipatory sigh*

We've cleaned up most all the extra XP we left behind in Act 1 and the start of Act 2. Now we're off to dispatch the rest of the prison guards in the Tower. Was hoping to level one more time before hitting the Duke and Thorm Quest, but I think I've almost maxed out the XP harvest with this character/class story line. On we go...

Cloud saves and local saves are stored in two different places on the PC. Maybe that's why you can't find the local saves. BG3 is the only game I know that does this.

Cloud saves are stored in this folder, which is only used when cloud sync is turned on: <Steam-folder>\userdata\<user-id>\1086940\remote

Local saves use this folder when cloud sync is off: %LOCALAPPDATA%\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3\

Thanks, GP, I'll check in the Larian folder. Although I think I may have already. Anyway, at least the saves are somewhere. I just want to find them my PC so I can back them up elsewhere and delete the cloud saves.

EDIT: Aha! There they are. Thank you! I had about 2,000 saves in there. I've deleted about 3/4 of them. Hopefully now my sync will work.

I'll join this into the larger "let's play" thread we currently have going, but thought this was a big enough event to get it's own thread, at least temporarily.

So, the big Patch 8 will be released next week on 04/15 and will introduce a bunch of content around new character sub-classes and game feature tweaks.

Here's a great summary from IGN on what the Patch will contain:

Baldur's Gate 3's Huge Patch 8 and Its 12 New Subclasses Finally Have a Release Date

I started playing when the first part of the game became available to play way back, and started several times since, at least seven or eight times.

I just downloaded the patch this afternoon. That's pretty sizable, it brought my total stored for BG3 up to 147.91 GB and took about a half hour to update with very fast wifi. As far as I've tested, it did not impact games in progress. I'm fairly far into my current session and played a fairly critical area (the first combat on the way into Baldur's Gate) and didn't have any perceivable issues. Time to get a new session going with the updated sub-classes thumbsup

I don't think I'm ever going to end this game, I'm just going to keep creating different character multi-class and sub-class combos lol

I'm glad you found your saves Hagatha! That sounds like about a session's worth of saves smile

I've tried to get in the habit of deleting saves after each major combat that requires a long rest. I somehow missed the time limit on one of the crucial combat encounters and that made me twice shy, so I save like a mad man now.

I'm about to enter the city in this current playthrough, but I think I'm going to temporarily jump into a new session to test out a couple of those new sub-classes.

I'm also about to enter the city in my game. I think this time I'll plow through and hopefully get past the dreaded timed section. I've never finished the game so I'm determined to do it.

My games library is littered with wonderful games that for one reason or another never got finished. Fallout 76 took up a lot of my time last year but I'm pretty much done with it so maybe I'll tie up some of those loose ends this year.

I always find finishing a good game somewhat depressing, so I figure out ways to extend it to ridiculous proportions. Almost 700 hours into BG3 and I have not hit the end game, cuz I'm crazy obsessive about building characters and strategies. I've got games going in the various game difficulty modes just so I can re-spec to see how my creations perform. Just realized how "Dr Frankenstein" that sounds. grin

Each iteration I get closer to the end, but find a reason (like the new patch) to try out a new course. Yeah, I've got problem lol

When I was playing BG2 back in the day, I had about 25 characters all saved and ready to go at any given time. I still roll characters from time to time, just to play around for an hour or two, even played IWD a while back just for the fun of creating a whole party. I do miss the days when you could re-roll for high scores. It made for some epic characters.

Speaking of not finishing games, somehow I managed to miss the ending of Skyrim until my most recent game, and I'm talking thousands of hours of playing. I was messing around and found a temple I hadn't been to before and thought, "Hmm, wonder what's up there..." slapforehead

I'm guessing that was Skuldafn? Yeah, kinda pivotal to the end game if that's the one grin

Yeah, I'm glad BG3 came along to pull me out of my mod laden Skyrim obsession. Bit bummed out that Larian reinforced that Patch 8 would be the last of any content that they will produce for BG3, no expansions or dlc. Now it's all up the modders and the creation kit.

This is a great video on the success of the game. The stats they relate are really something.

Hmmmm. 😐 I think I may have been a little too good about deleting excess saves. I made an in-game choice and I'm not sold on the outcome or the direction it appears to be going, yet. When presented with a choice I took what I thought to be the less extreme of the selections, but the result was more "transformative" than anticipated. Being the efficient gamer I strive to be (cough) I went a little crazy cleaning up my saves and am stuck down this path. Hoping a wisdom save somewhere along the line will assure it goes no further or cleans things up...

Well, the game is not installing properly on my Steam deck and I get an error message that looks like something you'd expect on a PC, with a path error. I've uninstalled it and reinstalled, so we'll see if it's working now, with the patch added. If not, I'll just haul my laptop into the kitchen and play at the kitchen island there.

Bummer. Hope it loads ok with the Steam Deck. So far, the patch seems really stable on PC. I was even able to re-spec my current character from a game in progress prior to the patch, at level 9 to one of the new sub-classes. Added "Hexblade" to my Warlock. thumbsup

I'm hearing about that Hexblade. Might be time to re-spec Wyll, if that's possible.

Haven't tried the new install on the Deck yet. Tomorrow we'll see.
