We are releasing this huge surprise, a 500MB mega-update that will enhance your copy of Scratches Director's Cut to unprecedented levels of quality. Blackwood Manor has never looked this good. But what is this exactly? As you may know, the Director's Cut edition of Scratches has some sound improvements in graphics, supporting a higher resolution, new climatic effects and an overall cleaner look. We weren't entirely happy with it though, so we began working on an extra, surprise feature, which sadly couldn't make it to be included in the release. In short: this update here includes completely remade graphics. It is truly an entire remake of the original game, up until the smallest texture - the culmination of two long months of extra work, in addition to all the efforts made for the Director's Cut edition. The detail in graphics may now surpass anything you have ever seen in panoramic adventures. This is our gift to all the fans of Scratches. Before you cry at the size of the download, we're talking with our publisher, Got Game Entertainment, about shipping free CDs with this update. More about that soon. Just got an email from Agustin --- there is a problem with the patch --- anyone who has download it --- go ahead and copy your save to a folder that you can find later so that they are not destroyed. and then uninstall the game --- delete this new patch.
A new update is on the horizon --- I will post as soon as I can.

Inferno Is this an add on to what we are playing...And why are the developers doing this? I personally thought the Graphics were Great..Just disappointed in the Game being the same game..With very little new things to explore.. Just realized Its a Game Over-Haul...Don't know why...I thought the sound & Graphics were Superb

Again --- different systems --- different problems --- this update is supposed to help with glitches and bugs ---- The is also supposed to help access the hidden ending of the game. Unfortunately --- it still needs more work.

And may I assume this won't work with the original version of the game? I ordered and received mine immediately after it was released and it is not the Director's Cut version. Is there any great difference?

tlc -- if you have downloaded the update prior to 05june ---yes
delete it and uninstall the game. (save your save fiiles o a folder that you can find easily.
re download the new updte 497MB.
I'm testing it now. --- and trying for the alternate ending.

Make sure that when installing this update you click on the Browse button and point to the game folder directory.

Inferno, When I install the game, it doesn't go to C:\Program Files. It goes to C:\Scratches Directors Cut. When I install the update, I click browse and have to direct it to go to C:\Scratches Directors Cut\Scratches Directors Cut. I don't know why it sets up the game folder inside of a folder.

That's because that is incorrect. You have ti install the game first --- that creates the folder "C:\Program Files\Scratches Director's Cut".
Then you start the patch update --- When it begins it will ask where you want to install the patch to. It will say:
C:\Program Files. It says this because it is made for more than one OS. Here you must click on "browse" and point it to
My Computer --- then Local Disc "c" ---- then Program Files --- then Scratches Director's Cut. So that in the address window it will read: C:\Program Files\Scratches Director's Cut.
note: this was my fault as I typed the address in here incorrectly to begin with TLC --- my apologies for the inconvenience..
If you are not clicking through hierarchy and just typing it into the window yourself --- you must remember to add the apostrophe after Director. If you just type in \Scratches Directors Cut --- this will create a new folder within the game folder (which is what you have done.)

Hi Inferno, That's weird. Both times I installed the game, it never had the default directory as C:\Program Files.

not really --- we aren't talking about the game. The game will install to it's normal folder --- we are talking about the patch update only

I've finished testing the new patch --- Works like a charm --
better sound effects --- much better graphics --- The journal gets more written in it --- remember that Michael is a writer --> so make him act like one especially after sunset. And yes there really is an alternate ending,
now testing PArt II The Last Visit --> This works great and also works very nicely with the first ending of Scratches

Good Morning,
I'd like a clarification. I too am replaying the game after downloading the patch. It seems to work fine. Am I to understand that what you are calling "The alternate ending" is a different entity from "Part II: The Last Visit?"
If all the people were heroes, there would be no one to watch the parades.

Hi sweetie! Haven't heard from you in a while. Nice to see you again. I remember how much you loved this Game. And yes the alternate ending is NOT --- The Last Visit. To answer your question ---- Here is what the DC version has upgraded:
"Skyscape" Graphics (showing difference in time of day)The graphics are still static - but gorgeous nonetheless.- More intense Lightening storm and effects
- added Easter Eggs
- An alternate ending (which shoves the story into a completely different direction)
- Michael's Journal --- wonderfully written (important for accessing the alternate ending)
- Upgraded Graphics (the palate is more intense)
- Upgraded Sound Effects and Music
- An additional Chapter to the game --- The Last Visit --- it's 10 years later and a reporter comes to investigate things. (This works very well with the original ending of the game) This part of the game has roughly 2 hours of game play without asking for hints or using a walkthrough)
Unfortunately, this release was frought with issues and a lot of hair pulling by Agustin. Ergo the update which is 497Mb and very necessary for the issue. The link is at the begining of this thread. inferno

The original Scratches has another Patches available for it.

 I really need a smiley for trepidation! I have down-loaded the big patch without difficulty and am really impressed with Director's Cut. The graphics are more brightly gloomy and everything seems to run smoothly. I only hope that they haven't simplified or clarified the game's ending too much. After the initial game I really enjoyed all the discussion of who did what when and to whom. I'll see how it all works out (If I can force myself to go back down into that darn basement!)
