Betty I didn't play this game. We will have to wait for one of the Myst gurus to assist you with this one.

Dusty, I remember beating this a long time ago, and it was very picky about hotspots to open doors, link, solve puzzles, etc. Basically, you have to move your cursor in a scanning kind of pattern while trying to find hotspots to cut down on frustration. Good luck on this, and I would advise getting the guidebook if you can find it. I usually find the guidebook on any game I buy for reference purposes if I'm getting driven out of my mind by a puzzle.

No problem Dusty, it's just easier to figure out where you've been and what's been done. Hopefully a MystV vet will be along to help you soon. Sorry to read about your surgery and hope you are feeling better.

Dusty, In order to reach the different "bubbles", you need to enter Direbo (that's the small age with the four bubbles) by 4 different linking books, scattered around back in the caves of D'ni. Each time you enter a linking book back in D'ni - you get access to one bubble alone. You can open the bridges from both sides, but the other side of the bridge will remain locked until you have linked to the other side with another book back in D'ni. So four bubbles makes four linking books you need to find in D'ni.
Good luck!
BTW - each bubble links to a new age, that you'll need to "solve".
There's definitely definitely definitely no logic to human behaviour.

I guess you have reached an elevator back in D'ni, which takes you all the way from the upper part of "the great shaft" to the middle part of it. You can find a room called a "resting room" when you get to the middle part. It is there where you'll find the linking book to Todelmer
There's definitely definitely definitely no logic to human behaviour.

There's an option to "drop" the plate - you should see a "drop" icon when you put the mouse cursor on the tablet's edge. Do you consult a walkthrough? Do you understand what you ought to do?

Dusty, do you mean the pedestal that is controlled by the windmill controls?
You need to do three things:
1. Raise the pedestal from the water ONE click.
2. Rotate the pedestal so that you have access to the entrance to the tunnel to the arena from the pedestal (I can't remember which direction that is, but there are only four directions so at worst, try them all).
3. Open the triangular door to the tunnel to the arena.
Then link to the pedestal by drawing the symbol on it at the initial bubble pedestal and link to now-raised pedestal; proceed to the arena.
Here is a post from a while ago to help you:
If you understand the controls, you can solve this.
Start the wind and walk up to the windmill controls (leave the slate near the bottom of the ramp so the Bahro doesn't take it)
- LEFT lever activates the controls. Hit it once each time after you start the wind.
- SECOND FROM LEFT lever raises the cage. If you raise it too high, hit it again to lower it once.
- RIGHT lever rotates the cage. If you rotate it too far, hit it again and check again till you have it right.
- LEFT button opens the triangular doors to the Arena. You can see them open thru the wind from the windmill controls (upper left).
- RIGHT button does nothing. Leave it alone.
Go back and forth from the windmill controls to the cage... if it isn't right (now that you know what does what) go back, start the wind, activate the controls and move something to get it right. The cage can only be rotated four directions. Try each one. You can see the triangualar door open, so open it and leave that button alone.
Good luck!
Dadguy

Yay, My9rugrats has been through all of this so she can now advise. Good to see you on the advice side, My!
OK, I can suggest a guess on this one.
The goal is to get the Bahro to come to get the dropped slate and stand on the pressure plate. Normally he'd grab the slate and zip out, leaving you to NOT reach the top via the elevator. So, the puzzle is to draw the SINGING symbol, which causes the Bahro to arrive, see the symbol, and sing a song before linking out, giving you more time to reach the top. Perhaps he's not recognizing the symbol and linking out before you get to the top? The one way I can think of to check this is if the slate retains a little SINGING icon at the bottom, showing that he did recognize the symbol. Check it. If not, try, try again....
Cheers,
Dadguy
PS: Care to comment on what you discovered about getting through that cage? What had you missed? It might help us in advising others....
