Does anyone happen to know the specific triggers just to have the phone call where Jerry tells you to look for candles?

After the call w/Jerry about the electrician not coming, where he suggested looking at the fuses myself, I did a little more exploring then went to basement and checked fusebox. When I came back to phone and called Jerry, we just talked about the combination to the safe & he said he'd get it to me tomorrow. Tried to call again and got a busy signal.

Have tried looking at everything again, re-opening all drawers/cupboards, etc. But just keep getting a busy signal when I try to call Jerry.

Any suggestions??

Jess I don't know what the specific triggers are. I know that you have to have searched for candles, messed with the fuse box and have called Jerry at least once. Did you go through the maids room? Did you find a piece of paper in there that you can shade and read the message that had been written? Have you called your secretary and spoken iwth her?
Have you tried to leave in your car yet? Have you unpacked and set up the typewriter?

As my initial post mentions, I have spoken w/Jerry on the phone. Four phone calls total, if I'm remembering right. But never one where he told me to look for candles, which I believe based on walkthroughs is a conversation I need to have to move forward.

And I've done everything else you listed in your post, Sue. As far as I can tell, I've done everything the walkthrough I've read says I should have done up to this point.

I'm thinking I might just start over using the walkthrough step-by-step to get past this point (I only read thu the walkthrough after I got stuck), b/c I've been stuck for ages.

Jess did you look in the mailbox? Have you clicked on every light switch you could find?

I've looked in the mailbox. I got the letter from the electrician, after that I called Jerry which is when he told me to check the fuses myself, which I did in the basement.

I've also already put the pencil to the note in the maid's room. Talked to my assistant about it, and placed the letter in the envelope and put that in the mailbox.

I have clicked on every light switch I've seen. I don't think that would be the problem though. Because I've already had conversations with Jerry about the electricity. My impression from the walkthroughs I've read is that I now need Jerry to suggest that I look for candles, which I thought he'd do once I checked the basement fusebox and found no problems.

Not sure what to tell you to do now Jess. After I had checked the fuses, found the note from the electrician and clicked on all the light switches, Jerry sent me on a hunt for candles.
Have you collected much inventory?

Here's my inventory (from memory, I haven't gone back into the game again): pen, pencil, boring tool, rag, front door key, basement key, broken lantern from attic, newspaper, matchbook, knife.

I think I'll try going through and hitting all the light switches, since you say it may be a trigger for this, and I know for sure I've already gotten the electrician's note & checked the fuses. Maybe I did miss a switach.

Thanks for the help, Sue!

You need to look in all the cupboards and drawers in the kitchen, The Dinning room, the music box and the trunk in the attic. Then go call Jerry again

inferno

ps The switches are not a trigger.

Tried hitting all the switches, didn't work.

inferno, tried your suggestion too. Those were actually all things I'd looked at before, but went and did it again. Looked in trunk in attic again, looked at music box (would not let me play it again). Looked in drawers/cupboards in kitchen & dining room. Still getting a busy signal when I call Jerry.

Unless I'm missing a drawer or cupboard. I've found 1 cupboard & 1 drawer in the dining; 1 cupboard w/2 drawers inside it in the kitchen.

I think at this point I'm just going to have to give up. Am house sitting for my sister & playing on her computer, had hoped to play the entire game this weekend (Can't play it on my PC at home). That's not going to happen now so I'm just going to have to start over some other time.

Thanks for the help though!

Jess,

Just a thought since that trunk in the attic is one of the triggers - did you read everything in there? There are pictures and leaflets or sorts.

Yep, I went through all the stuff in the trunk.

Earlier when I first got stuck I also tried going thru all the drawers in every room of the house again.

ETA: I'm sure there's just 1 or 2 little things I haven't done, but I can't for the life of me figure out what. I've been looking at this walkthrough: http://www.fisicx.com/scratches/walkthrough.htm
and I went thru it step by step and I swear I've done everything in it up to this point.

Thanks very much for your email, MaG!

I was actually able to get past this finally. I actually backed up to one of my earliest saved games, and followed the walkthrough instructions from the 2nd gameboomers walkthrough (by Malcolm Schmidt). Finally talked to Jerry about the candles, went and tried to drive my car, had it die, etc. I still have no idea if there was something I missed doing before, I guess I must have, but I'll never know what! smile

I'll have to do a bunch of house exploring over again since I went back to an earlier save, but that's okay. I got this done with.

Thanks for all the help from everyone!
