Dear Sally, Sue and AZhot,
I wanted to thank you again for your help - especially Sally who did compare my "jewel" screens with hers which confirmed that my jewels were missing. I did work with BFG attempting to resolve the issue. Unfortunately, we never did succeed in correcting my problem(s). It is probably a conflict of some sort with another program already on my computer. Very strange, but the mystery was not unraveled. I did receive a game credit from BFG and am now in "Pirateville." I will miss the Scruffs and will never see them in their new noble digs. I just hope they will be rich enough to afford a good housekeeper.

Freya, sorry you were not able to get the issue resolved, but at least BF tried and recompensed you for the game not working. Have fun with Pirateville. wave

Freya, you're definitely not the only person who had this problem, and it's too bad they weren't able to resolve the issue. Hopefully SweetToothGames won't have this issue in the next game. (but meanwhile, update your graphics driver just in case)

Sally,
Thanks for the info. It makes me feel a little better to know that there were others with the same problem. As advised by BFG (and you), I did update my video card driver and checked to make sure I had the latest version of DirectX. Hope you are getting some nights of uninterrupted sleep!

Hi Freya, I haven't been able to play The Scruffs at all! I saw the thread & realised you had a problem but have got somewhere with it? - but can't find what you posted in the first place?

BF have offered to look at my PC diagnostics to try & fathom out the problem - I just can't get over that they are prepared to do this - what an excellent service! The outcome may not be too good but if it is, it may help with some other games/demos etc I have also been having problems with & maybe lead to something that may help you? smile

Chrissie,

Here is a copy of my original correspondence with BFG Customer Support contained in the brackets:

[I am a game club member. I recently purchased “The Scruffs.” I was enjoying the game, playing in the relaxed mode, until I reached the section near the end where you have to locate grandpa’s jewels. I couldn’t find a single one. I finally went to the Gameboomer forum for assistance. Even with help the help of others, I still was unsuccessful. I had noticed another oddity (which I will explain below) in this program, so I uninstalled and reinstalled the game.
Unfortunately, I had the same experience in the same section. One of the Gameboomers offered me more assistance by having me e-mail a screen capture of two of the rooms involved - the guest room and the attic. Her results are below:

“Neither of those screenshots contained gems. I take reference screenshots of my games, so I took your screenshots and compared them with mine with the "difference" filter in photoshop. Aside from the fact that my screenshots contained a gem, everything else was exactly the same. If you email those screenshots to BFG I'm sure they can do something to fix the game. If you want you can send me the rest of the shots from the rest of the rooms (preferably in original 800x600 resolution since I had to resize them again in photoshop) and send them as PNGs, I can compare the rest.

But yes, definitely a glitch!”

The second problem I noticed during this problem involves the file C:\Program Files\The Scruffs\ Player and occurred in both installations. It is labeled “Brains“BrainsBreaker_SavedPuzzle.” When I open it, it opens the BrainsBtreaker
program. BrainsBreaker is a jigsaw program that has been on my computer for a long time and has not caused me any problems before. It is functioning properly.

I am at a complete loss as to how to rectify this situation. Please advise.

Thank you.

P.S. I have not included a captured picture as an attachment as I don’t know how to do that on this form with Screenshot Captor. I would have to send it as an attachment on my e-mail.]

Subsequently, I did e-mail BFG pictures of the rooms at the end of the game (from my computer) which were supposed to contain the jewels. There were no jewels. I also played the game in the timed mode to see if this made a difference. Unfortunately, it did not.

As I stated before, the problem could not be resoved. I hope this aids you in your quest for a solution.

Good luck,
Freya

Thanks Ana for the link to Freya's previous posts, I had a good read through! Also thanks Freya for all the info - it does seem to me that there is a problem with this game for some systems - just wonder how many people have experienced this that we just don't know about - I would guess it is more than you or I!

All I can do now is wait for BF to get back to me - will let you know the outcome as soon as I can! smile

Hi, have had quite a lot of correspondence with BF who can't be more helpful. There has apparently been two new 'builds' of the game since last week - the latest released a few hours ago!!! Unfortunately it hasn't helped me at all - I still can't play the game but I don't know whether it may help you Freya?

Hi Chrissie,
Thanks for the update. I may give "The Scruffs" another try eventually. For the time being, I am otherwise occupied. If I do get back to it, I will let you know the result. I was also impressedd with level of service from BFG.
Freya
