Wonderful news! We've all been excited to see Microïds resurfacing as an adventure game publisher -- and now they are announcing the launch of a sequel to Still Life.Microïds today announced the production of the second installment in the Still Life series. Still Life 2 has been in development at Gameco Studios since June 2007 and is being produced fully in real-time 3D. The PC version of the game is due to be released in November 2008.
The series presents the adventures of FBI agent and profiler Victoria McPherson, investigating some of North America's most difficult and darkest crimes. With this latest installment, Still Life is aimed at becoming the first original police series in the adventure game segment, building on the example of modern thrillers. Those of you who played Still Life will remember that its ending did not completely resolve the game's mysteries. Many GameBoomers members have posted here in this forum to speculate about the game's ending. Up until today, it looked as though gamers might not ever be able to find the definitive answers to the questions raised by the original story. Microïds has posted this teaser statement to assure them that: "Fans of Still Life can expect to discover who is hiding behind Mr. X in the sequel." Game SummaryStill Life 2 reveals the long-awaited ending of Still Life and spells a new investigation for Agent Victoria McPherson.
In Fall 2008, Agent McPherson is sent to Maine where Audrey Dunnigan's body has just been found. The modus operandi and the video sent to the police and press leave them in no doubt as to the killer's identity: the East Coast Torturer has struck again!
No clues are picked up during the autopsy, as the serial killer painstakingly washed the body. Once again, the killer has not committed any errors.
From her motel room, McPherson comes across a report by Paloma Hernandez, the journalist covering all the crimes bearing the East Coast Torturer's signature. Hernandez has been highly critical of the FBI's and McPherson's lack of progress. That does not stop Hernandez from phoning and asking McPherson to meet her later that evening. Hernandez claims to have some so-called clues on the killer in her possession. McPherson flatly refuses. Just moments later, Hernandez is kidnapped by the Torturer… In Still Life 2, gamers will control two heroines, bringing dual perspectives and involving two different gameplay experiences. "Depending on whether they are playing the victim (Paloma Hernandez) being hunted by the killer or the FBI agent (Victoria McPherson) tracking him down, gamers can alternate between survival and investigation." Visit the Microïds website. Okay, there's nothing there yet about Still Life 2, but there soon will be! Until then, you can savor the GameBoomers review of the original Still Life by nickie.

Nah, but I'll merge you into the other thread if that's okay with you! EDIT: Merlin, I loved your thread title, so I added it into the beginning of your post, since we'll lose the title when I merge the two threads.

Excellent news Becky. I still have Still Life and haven't played it yet. This will make me want to play it sooner than I planned on. Cathy

This is such great news!! Still Life is one of my all-time favourite games, and I'd always hoped that one day, maybe, perhaps, there might be a sequel - and now there will be! Thank you, Microids!

I'm a little hesitant to get too excited about this. My favorite character was Gus, not Victoria. And I see no mention of Gus in this announcement. It looks like we'll also lose the trips back to Gus's time period. Another thing that I wonder about is how many of the developers who originally conceived Still Life are working on the new one. The first one had a certain artistry -- the way they tied events in the past to those in the present, the sort of creepy way they had the murderer see beauty in his dead victims when he painted them, and lots of small details that may not be immediately obvious. It made the original game something more than a story about chasing down a serial killer. If none of the original developers are working on the new installment, will the new developers be able to maintain the artistic qualities of the original? Still Life 2 has been in development at Gameco Studios since June 2007 and is being produced fully in real-time 3D. Does that mean the game will play in real time 3D? The original was 2.5D.

Absolutely amazing news there. There aren't many people around who don't want a sequel to the original to clarify what happened. Excellent news there, one of my favourite games!
