Hi all, I have a problem with Next Life aka Reprobates. On the first screen when game is loaded I cannot move the mouse cursor at all so the game is unplayable. I checked recommended HW configuration and my PC meets it. I have the newest driver for my graphic card. Thank you for help.

You really need to post your specs, especially the make and model of your graphics card and the date of its drivers. The information can be found on the Display tab of DXDIAG.
Click Start button then Run. Type
dxdiag
in the box and OK it. When DXDIAG opens, Check the Display tab.
Run all the tests for your card that are on the Display tab.

Have you tried any of Dreamcatcher's suggestions?

Try pressing alt and tab to go to windows desktop then press alt and tab once more to hop back in (you may need to press it more than once to get back in depending on whats opened on your desktop).

Might fix the mouse to move.

Alternativly try a different mouse.

And as Jenny mentioned post your specs, which instructions to do so is as jenny said or read the sticky topics.

So you may just have to wait till the game unlocks your mouse to progress on.

I tried to swith with Alt-Tab as Skeeter22UK said, that did not work. The mouse pointer stays freezed even if I let it be like for 5 minutes. Will try different mouse soon.

Jenny100: those are my specifications of graphics card - tests performed via dxdiag were successful.
Nvidia GE Force 2100 GS with 512 MB

Strange thing is that when I play demo Reprobates, have no problems with mouse at all...

If that's a Gainward GeForce 2100 GS Ultra, it's actually a 6800.
2100 is not a Geforce number.
See if you can find the number 6800 on the dxdiag Display tab. If you have a 6800, the latest driver is from December 2007 (not April 2007) and is here

If you're using a tweaked driver from Gainward, that might be why the game is having a problem.

If hurka said the demo was fine i doubt its a gfx driver issue or card issue, with regards to mouse freeze id say it could be a dx issue or a game issue itself.

There might be something at the very beginning of the game that isn't in the demo. Maybe if someone had a save from the very beginning of the game that would get Hurka past the freeze.

Jenny, sorry, I mistyped about the gr. card. My graphic card is NVidia GeForce 7100 GS.
The idea about the save is good but if I cannot move the mouse at all I won't be able to click on Load Game in menu either....

Well a 7100 GS would be considerably slower than a 6800.
It's onboard graphics rather than being a separate video card.
It may be too slow to play the game.

If the computer is upgradable, you should probably consider getting a separate graphics card.

Same exact thing has happened to me. nVidia 7600GT 256mb graphics card. P4-3.0, 2 gig-o-ram ... DirectX 9.0c

What did you do to resolve it? Your 7600GT video card is certainly plenty fast enough for this game. Are your drivers up to date?

I think my video card is good enough regarding to their HW recommendations and frankly, the game does not worth upgrading video card... paid enough for the game itself
cwky, have you tried to contact The Adventure Company Technical Support and what was the result?

Did you try getting a save from the start of the game from someone?

Wellll... The first thing I did was jump up and down and throw a little hissy fit. That didn't work. I tried a different mouse (wired-non-usb) that didn't work. I updated my drivers for the video card, that didn't work. I emailed Adventure Company support, from their website, before I posted here yesterday, actually. I have not gotten any response so far. If/when I do, I will be sure to post.

Anybody else have any ideas? On mine the mouse still works until a few seconds before the Adventure Company splash screen comes up, after that it's gone. Unless I Alt-Tab to another app.

Argh.

Also, Jenny100, I don't think getting a saved game would help, because you can't control the mouse at the main menu screen to load it. I also tried every possible keyboard shortcut I could think of, with no luck.

It helps when you're specific about exactly where you're having the problem. I thought you meant the first screen of the game, not the menu screen.

cwky, I contacted them, got email after two days or so... well, we got "so far" that now after many mails they required my dxdiag.txt file. It could be better maybe to send them the file first and not make my mistakes They also said to check that you have the newest driver for your video card, not more than 6 months old. I am sure you have the newest as I do.

Try reinstalling direct x if it is on the cd/dvd. Also try a older gfx card driver perhaps, newest isnt always the best.

Hurka- By any chance are you running two monitors? (like I am) Looking for a common thread.

My new vid drivers are the most current from the card manufacturer and from nVidia v94.24, but they are still from last April. Prior to yesterday, I had been using v93.71, which I believe was from Nov of 06. Next Life acted the same with both.

Direct x is not on the next life cd, but mine is quite recently installed/updated from when I put the Orange Box on. Half Life, Next Life... Will it be resolved before the After Life? Argh.

Try disabling 1 monitor, dual monitor setups can cause problems with some games as a mate does use 2 and he has to disable 1 sometimes cos of game probs.

Same symptoms with the single monitor setup. Took me a while to put all my icons back where I can find them though....

What operating system are you using? Windows 2000? It must be if 94.24 is the latest version. There are much newer drivers for the 7600GT with Windows XP.
