I appreciate everybody's help here, with still no word from the Adventure Company, it's been my only resource. That said, I wish we were making progress... I guess ruling a few things out is progress though....
Robert - Yes, Win2K(sp4) which is supposedly compatible, according to the web site and the box. Do you suppose that even though 94.24 is current fo me, it might not be current enough?
Skeeter22UK - Good suggestion, for some reason I hadn't tried one of the more obvious things. I closed everything I could, leaving only the networking, volume control and Anti-V controls in the systray. I can't completely turn of symantec corporate av, but I can (and did) disable "auto-protect". Unfortunately, my results with the game are unchanged.

I don't really know the answer to that question. It would seem to me those drivers should work if the game is compatible with Windows 2000. It may be a long shot, but perhaps try some older drivers.

And they didn't answer, surprise surprise... I smell a cover-up... They still haven't answered me either.
By any chance, does anyone know someone who has been able to get this game to work with Win2K? It would be good to know that it was even possible. - Oh yeah, I looked into that Compatibility Mode, but it appears to apply only to SP2 & SP3. And looks risky. I rely on this machine for work too, and can't risk hosing up the OS. (again...)
I also chose not to step back in time on the graphics drivers, seeing as how I've already tried to get the game to go with one that was from Nov of 06. And that it was a pain to get the Dual View right again after the update to 94.24.
-----------------------------------------------------
A quick (cwky? ha ha...) update. Still no word from The Adventure Company support folks, so I've emailed them again.

Got new information from the support. Didnt solve my problem but it might help you:
You may try to disable the multi core processing by following these steps below:
1. Launch the application you wish to use.
2. If the application uses full screen, Alt + Tab out of the application. If the game does not support Alt + Tabbing, then consult the processor manufacturer as the following steps will not work properly.
3. Access the Task Manager by either pressing CTRL + SHIFT + ESC, or through the menu found through pressing CTRL + ALT + DEL.
4. Find the application on the application tab and right click it.
5. Select "Find Process" from the popup menu. You'll find yourself on the Processes tab with a Process highlighted.
6. Right click that process and select "Set Affinity" from the popup menu. You'll an amount of selected "CPU's" representing the amount of Cores or Processing Threads available for use through your processor.
7. Deselect the necessary amount of "CPU's" leaving one remaining. Computation relating to that specific process will now be delivered favorably to the "CPU" left selected.
Settings will reset once you exit the game.

Hi all,
I have the same problem with this game as hurka has.
I have a NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GS card, Windows 2000 and am stuck in the menu area with no way to start a new game or load or do anything else. The cursor is next to the name Next Life and is blinking. I tried every key on the keyboard and also all buttons on the mouse but nothing happens.
I tried re-installing the game. I tried the compatibility thing and that didn't work. I tried disabling McAfee while I re-installed and that didn't change anything.
So I hope someone hears from The Adventure company with some ideas of what to try next.
If not than I guess we have a useless $30.00 Frisbee.

What is V-sync and where do I find it?
If its in the game options then I can't get into it because I can't get into anything on the game menu.
If its on the computer then I need a clue as to where it is.
Since I don't know what I am doing when it comes to changing anything on this computer...I would need to be sure before I changed anything...if I change anything.

I have looked at the control panel for Nividia Display and have not found anything to do with v-sync.
----------------------------------------------------------
Hi all,
So has anyone heard from The Adventure Co. and if so, did they give you any ideas to try?
I have taken another look through the Nividia Nforce control panel (which is for audio)and there is nothing there for v-sync.
I also look in the Nividia nView desktop manager and nothing there either to do with v-sync.
This is the only game that I am having problems with.
I have a few other games I just bought and all of them work good except this one.

I have taken another look through the Nividia Nforce control panel (which is for audio)and there is nothing there for v-sync. You should have a little green icon in the lower right hand corner of your desktop (where the time of day is displayed). When you hover your mouse over it, it'll say "Nvidia Settings". Click on it. Then click "Nvidia Control Panel". Then click "Manage 3D Settings". Then scroll down to V-Sync. Highlight V-Sync and selct "Force on". I doubt if forcing V-Sync on is going to help you. What you really need to do is upgrade your operating system to Windows XP. You're years behind the curve with Windows 2000.

Erm i advised to turn OFF v-sync as it can cause mouse lag amongst other mouse issues. Its usually on by default with the setting "if appication asks for it then use it" which it might be doing.

1. I don't see anything to do with Nividia in the lower right hand corner on this computer.
2. In the Control Panel folder I do have 2 icons for Nividia which are, Nividia Nforce control panel and Nividia nView desktop manager. Looking through everything in these 2 I find nothing to do with v-sync or 3D settings.
3. Like Jenny said, This game does have Windows 2000 on the box so my question is, why doesn't it work??? The music plays and the menu window looks normal but the cursor won't move. I have 165 games that work wonderfully on this computer so why would I upgrade just for this game?
I sure hope we can figure out something because the store won't give me my money back on a PC game so I will be stuck with a useless unplayable game.

Try this -->
Right click anywhere on your Desk top ---> Select Nvidia Control Panel by left clicking on it.
On the left side of the window, click on --> 3D Settings --> Adjust settings with preview --> On the right side under the preview image select --> Use the advanced 3D image settings and click on "take me there" --> There will be two tabs: Global Settings and Program Settings
Here you can do one of two things:
Click on Global Settings in the window under "settings". scroll all the down to the bottom and you will find "vertical sync" = v-sync. Click on this and select "force off" from the drop down menu.
Click Apply Click OK
restart your system.
or
You might want to choose Program Settings
Then click on "add" ---> when the new path window appears --> navigate to My Computer --> Program Files --> and whatever the rest of the game folder address is. Look for the the game's ".exe" file is. Hightlight it and choose "open" The exe file will now appear inside the "settings" window at the top. Click on the check mark next to it. Now at the botton of the setting window you can scroll to thew bottom again and select Vertical Sync --> and choose Force off. Click Apply Click OK. Then restart your system.

Hi,
Well I finally found the v-sync but the path I had to follow was totally different than what you gave me.
I had to right click on the desktop, pick properties, then settings, then advance. There I could pick GForce 7600GS properties. This is where my performance and Quality setting are.
(I don't have any 3D settings or program settings.)
The performance and Quality setting is where I could add the game profile but when I went through that part the v-sync was off.
I also have an engine setup in the game folder that has the v-sync and it was off there also.
I read in the read me from the game that I should be getting an intro movie and I don't get that. The only thing that appears is The Adventure Company and nothing else then it goes to the game menu.

That's a good idea, Skeeter. They should probably be running SP4...with all applicable updates. **edit** It may also help to install this (Update Rollup 1 for Windows 2000 SP4). Just make sure you already have SP4 before installing it. And read the FAQs. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/891861
