Prey is beginning to sound interesting, sometimes I don't want to plan stuff as in an RPG, just shoot. Does anyone know if it will play on PC with a console type controller? If it does, I may go and look for it.

If it does, I may go and look for it. It should have gamepad support. Most all new FPS do. However, I would strongly urge you to practice with mouse and keyboard on first person shooters. Your aiming ability is diminished severely using a gamepad with games that have no "auto-target". Mouse and keyboard is MUCH better. By the way, you can actually use a gamepad with ANY PC game regardless of whether or not it supports it. I use a free program called JoyToKey. It converts the gamepad input to mouse and keyboard input. I wrote some instructions for how to set it up using a standard Xbox controller. http://www.geocities.com/robvei45/rbvedocv3.txtIf you use a "wired" Xbox 360 controller, you don't need the USB adapter I mention in that article. The 360 controller plugs directly into a USB port. All you need to do is install the drivers. This driver is better than the standard Microsoft drivers... http://xbcd360guide.50webs.com/guide.html

I may have to ask grandson if he has Prey. If not, I think it just made my list.
Gardens put to bed. Time for more reading and gaming.

Thanks MaG for fixing it, I should have known better but got caught up in the subject. Thanks for the info Robert, I have a Logitech controller, a Cyber Snipa and a gaming keyboard. I use the Logitech whenever I can, I like all my fingers close together. I will look at your links for more info.

I have dial-up, so downloading demos, patches etc. is an absolute misery. But I'll probably wait quite a while until the price on the game goes way down. I have a stack here that isn't getting played as it is. Is there a game that it is similar in style to, Robert?

Is there a game that it is similar in style to, Robert? Not really, Nickie. I mean, there are many FPSs that may be similar as far as graphics and environments, but the cool thing about Prey is that you're moving around in all three dimensions. You can take a certain path and come back to the room you were in before, but this time running around on the ceiling... or the wall. It's kinda hard to explain. I've never played any FPS like it...and I've played a big ole pile of 'em. *edit* And you need to wake up and smell the 21st century, my dear Dial up? Do they not have DSL or Cable internet available where you live? Start the download, then go to bed. Another idea would be to get another Boomer to burn the demo onto a CD and mail it you It would probably get to you faster than downloading it.

In the booming metropolis where I live, they just quit using party lines, if that gives you a clue. But it's serene and I love it - except for the fact that they aren't laying fiberoptic line for another ten years. No big deal though - Drac was kind enough to send me the patches for the wonderful game The Witcher. If you like RPGs at all, you need to take a look at it. Didn't Prey have some sort of bonus with it like a little doll or something?

I don't know about that one. I've heard a lot of good things about The Witcher. It's just so hard for me to get into an RPG. I played Oblivion for while, got bit and turned into a Vampire. From then on the game was about trying to gather what I needed for a cure instead of going about the business of completing the main Quests. But's that for another thread

Nickie, I have been looking on eBay, there aren't many, but the prices are right. I will probably get one there sooner or later. It seems the Limited Collectors has a couple of little figures. Meanwhile I think I will go and look for the Demo. One thing about shooters, if I don't like them, my grandson will. I just don't have the spare time now to get into any of my RPG's.

Good luck Hawka, and let me know if you like it ok? I know what you mean about the RPGs - some of them can take a looong time to finish. Of course, there are some that you like so much you wish they never would!

I installed the demo and it is working fine, not with the controller though, using the gamepad portion of my keyboard. The controls seem easy enough, in this part anyway, you sorta got to crouch him down and slip to the side through some of the doors. He is on a spaceship after being captured, along with his grandpa and girlfriend. He has only a wrench for a weapon so far and has no problems bashing with it. I of course get lost alot and travel back and forth along the same corridors, I bashed a guy in his underwear, don't know if I was supposed to but I hit the mouse button, oops, then my character said he was better off like that. I just passed the part where Grandpa is done in, no control over this happening so not a spoiler. The game is very very bloody, but I have no qualms about smashing insect looking outer space creatures, I really have no clue what they are. So far they have died easily, but I sure my life will be in jeopardy very soon.
Nickie, I can burn the demo to a CD for you if you want, my download took about 15 minutes on broadband, then snail mail it to you.

Good price, but $8.99 shipping to Hawaii is not good. Unfortunately the nearest Circuit City is on Oahu, we are supposed to have one here in a year. Oh well!!
