I am at the point in the game where I need to clean the bird that is covered in oil. The young girl has brought the bird to my bathtub & I have a brush & detergent, but I can not seem to do anything to clean the bird. I also asked for help from Hercule Poirot, but I still can not figure out what I am missing.
I would really appreciate a hint!

Actually I figured out that I needed to get the bird cleaning book, but I can not read the book! This is frustrating!

I figured out that you had to double-click on the book. I had not realized I had to do that with the inventory items.

Why can't you read the book? Can it not be opened?
Have you double clicked it fast to get a closeup?
Then use the magnifying lens.
