When it comes to using a rope in the scriptorium for the first time (and u have 2 ropes in inventory), if you drop one, PICK IT UP, or u won't be able to progress later in the game.

Hi iva -- yes, some of us have had that experience. It's great to see that more gamers are playing the game. I mentioned the glitch in my review in a way that I hoped wouldn't be a spoiler!
