I am still trying to install games that I lost when my pc crashed. I had quite a few installed. I have Paradise working, Moment of Silence and Secrets of Atlantis working now. I have today tried to reinstall Runaway 2, but Vista does not seem to like it, I think it might be Direct X, which I did not install as Vista I think already has a higher Direct X than 9c.

Has anyone had or has any problem with Runaway 2. I have looked down the list but can find no mention of this game.

You can try installing DirectX if you're given the option during the Runaway install. There may be a few dll files that aren't included with Vista. I think it will either refuse to install, or add any DirectX dll files that the DirectX that came with Vista is lacking.

Also I think the latest Runaway 2 patch is to improve Vista compatibility.

Fresh install of vista, has a bad direct x installed when its installed along with vista, so i would highly recommend installing direct x 9.0c in vista as it updates old dll files etc.

As once when i first got vista some games like company of heroes didnt work. My friend told me ab out dx problem and said install 9.0c and then all games worked.

Also try seeing if theres a vista patch for the game from the games website or workarounds for vista problems. Sometimes they tell ppl these things on their sites or their forums.

Thanks fellow boomers, I will uninstall Runaway 2 and have a look around for a patch and also trying to reinstall, installing the direct x which comes with the game. I will keep you up to date with how I get on. Cheers.

I have vista and I loaded Runaway 2 and it also would not run. I googled Runaway 2 patch and chose the site worthdownloading.com. I then searched for Runaway 2 and got a list of patches. US 1 did not run but US 2 did. Downloaded the patch. Ran Runaway2 and got no video--used esc. key and got options. Turned off special video effects and saved this config. Then game loaded and ran fine.

Hope this is some help.

I have directx 10 and tried both downloads with dx9 and without. neither worked until I installed the patch

No luck with Runaway 2. I downloaded the patches but the game just will not install. A box keeps coming up saying that Runaway 2 has not installed properly and to reinstall. I have tried medium install and full install. I found a site for Runaway 2 and someone had exactly the same problem as me, with the same box appearing, so I can't install the patch I downloaded as the game will not install properly. I hate Bill Gates for bringing out Vista and not keeping xp, as most of my games (except for the very old ones, like The Longest Journey) that was my favourite game of all time. I tried to play that on xp, but it would not play. I would love to play that one again, it was the only game I played none stop till the end.

Here are the offical forums, maybe you will find the fix here

There is a patch that adds vista support its the 1.3 patch but read the full post before downloading it to make sure you have the right version of runaway 2. patch here

Here is a quote from a topic at them forums that might help you also.

Then I started the game to see if the error would pop up again when asked to insert the serial number there and - tada! - it started the game right away without error.

Try that and see if it works for you guys as well!

Hi Cornelia,

I have had vista on my laptop for over a year and love it. Most of my games (99%) run right away and those that don't usually just need a patch. Runaway 2 is one of the two games that would not run and the patch fixed it. I have tested many of my XP games for this site and they have all run in Vista with no problem.

I also just installed The Longest Journey to replay again on my XP desktop computer and it installed and ran with no problem.

Hope you find a fix for your problems. It can be so frustrating when things don't work.

Orchid

P.S. My Runaway 2 copy was bought in Canada

Could it be that Pheobe's security parameters are too high?
Pheobe which version of Vista do you have?

I would first do this:

You may want to consider removing these absurd security features:

1. Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> System Config
2. Continue through User Account Controls prompt
3. Select Tools -> Scroll down and select Disable UAC
4. Click Launch -> Reboot machine

If that doesn't work

Try installing the game to "Documents" --- the security permissions are lower there for some reason.

If that doesn't work -- study the suggestions here:

try reading through this site for help

I stiil have had no luck with Runaway 2, I tried installing it on my xp pc which it was installed before it crashed. I have new drives on the pc, but Runaway 2 will not install on a pc which it played perfectly well before. I believe the dvd is corrupt now, probably by trying to install it so many times. I have been looking in games shops to buy another copy, but no luck, as being an older game now, they did not have any more.

Are you getting any error messages? What happens when you try to install it? First make sure the game folder was not left behind when you un-installed the game (in C:\Program Files). It's common for the game folder to remain after a game has been un-installed. If it's still there, delete it. Then download and install CCleaner. Open CCleaner and click the Registry icon. Have it scan for issues and let it fix everything it finds. Then reboot your computer and try to install the game.

**edit**

If you do indeed need to buy another copy you should be able to find it at Amazon.com or Ebay. However, I don't see how the disk would be bad unless you've damaged it somehow. Is it badly scratched?

No, it looks ok, I guess these things happen, I will look at Amazon.com, but not EBay, I sometimes look at the site, but don't trust anyone to buy there, read too much in the papers about people being ripped off.
