Hi smile

I've had the two games in this series sitting on my un-played stack for a couple of years now so I thought it was about time I braved up to trying the first lol

So, I installed it and patched it and then went to open the manual .... I have the "Xplosiv" release with the manual on the CD.

Anyway, when I opened the manual all that was there was a list of credits !!!! What is THAT all about !!!! shocked

I have been able to get a manual from "replacementdocs.com" so not a problem - but I wondered if this kind of thing has happened to anyone else ??

Love the game so far, by the way, and am desperately hoping the whole thing will be within my combat capabilities wink

Cheers.

Mad yay

Hi Mad, you have a real treat in front of you, with BOTH Masquerade games to play! I didn't get a manual with the game & I was never able to find it on the disk, so I learned by trial & error. I don't think you'll have a problem with the combat. When you get to the silver mines, try to conserve your healing potioons, you'll need them. The fun really starts when you become a vampire!

Hi Barb smile

I've just finished the Mines .... And am now about to start a "night patrol" of the town grin

My only hope is that - liking the game so much - I'm able to manage the combat, as this is another game without a "Pause" button eek

Cheers.

Hi Mad! Good for you braving it! grin I haven't got to these either, but as you know there are several people here that have played the series quite a few times, and you can search if you want for some long threads.

Mad, I think you'll love this game. The combat starts out slowly and lets you build up to it. What makes this one perhaps my favorite is the characters. You will eventually have a Coterie of fellow vampires fighting with you. I mentioned in the other vampire thread that I was getting the itch to play this one again, so maybe after I finish Avencast I'll join you!

You don't have any choice about being bitten, you are doing it right Mad. I still have this on my computer to replay. I did fine the last time, finished the game with Barbs help in the end. This time I died in the Silver Mines, maybe I need to slow down the computer to match the game. I play slow also, mostly cause I have so many things going on at the same time. I am still playing Fable too, trying to get past a wretched quest that isn't going too well. Maybe I will check out Redemption again.

Edit here: I am down in Silver Mines 3 with that dreaded redhead vampire and I forget how to use the Holy Water. Can someone jog my poor displaced memory?? Nevermind, I got the creature, had to put all the HW in the quick slots, the click it on him.

Mad, I am back in the town now, about to start patrol, I will stay here until I hear where you are.

Gradually getting the hang of things but am certainly not a very accomplished vampire yet wink

Having great fun .... just hoping though that I can find sufficient blood supplies to keep me going lol

Mad you know that you can keep feeding on the monks for the longest time, just don't overdo and kill off the supply. I would keep running back upstairs when I ran out of blood, I am so gross. Some of those things down there are hard to kill, did you up your strength and stuff. I don't bother with charisma and being a pretty boy.

Don't forget to add points to Feeding - it will make it easier to feed on unwilling targets. Mad, when you feed on the monks, watch their health bar - if you kill them you will lose humanity. The monastery is tough because you won't be very proficient at feeding yet. It'll get easier.

Hi smile

Actually, it's my compatriot who gets perilously short of blood so I have to keep giving him what we find. [In those flasks.]

I, myself, am more or less surviving by drinking from some of our attackers before going on to kill them - where I can, of course - or running all the way back upstairs and grabbing a monk or two ....
[Can't believe I'm writing these words !! lol lol]

Since getting bitten - and that initial resting and levelling up in the library basement - I haven't found another opportunity to rest, so I haven't been able to augment any of my capabilities.

I guess if the going gets TOO tough, I will have to re-visit the library and then come back ??

Whatever else, I am certainly enjoying myself with this game and it is certainly different grin

Cheers.

At some point you will get "Walk the Abyss" scrolls which you can use to return to your resting place.

This is a pretty good walkthrough should you need it!

Hi Draclvr smile

i am stuck at the moment, trying to beat the big baddie at the monastary - Mercurio .... eek

I looked at that walkthrough you give the link for but it talks about using scrolls I don't yet possess so looks like there's nothing for it but to hi-tail it all the way back to the library and raise my strength stats or something slapforehead

[I have a better weapon in inventory but need 3 more strength points before I can use it - and I'm sure I have now earned those points grin]

Cheers.

Mad I think the need for the walk the abyss scroll is because in the unpatched version of the game you could only save at your haven. Just save your game before facing Mercurio, until you figure out how to beat him. I know you have to do in Garinol first. I am just turned vampire and went to visit the monastery, unfortunately I used the wrong mouse button and killed a monk. Sigh!! So I went back to the newly turned vampire, joined with Wilhelm at the University. I played this game probably four or more years ago and don't remember anything. I do remember being a save freak, like after every combat. Did you go to Udornas shop in Golden Lane? You can buy scrolls and blood from her, sell all your health potions if you have any left. Did you break all the barrels in Prague to get rusty weapons to sell? I don't remember why Wil doesn't have the feed icon, I do remember that he will steal your blood if he runs out.

Yup, everything Hawka said, Mad. Mecurio is a tough one to beat no matter what. I remember having to come back and do that one several times before I finally got him the first time I played.

Hi smile

Well, yahoo !!!!
I got the evil Mercurio and not long after that finished off the Golem in the North Quarter too !! happydance

[ oops Careful, careful !! Got to watch I don't start to feel over confident lol lol]

And thanks for your help. It's much appreciated grin

Anyway, a question ....

Do either of you know who identifies things ??
I have a Jewel Encrusted Cross and a Femur Bone - both of which are "unidentified".
No dialogue option has come up anywhere regarding identification and clicking either item on any characters hasn't worked either whistle

Cheers.

I don't remember that at all Mad, you were supposed to use the bone to off Mercurio, I don't think you need it for anything else. Cross with jewels, I don't remember using, maybe Draclvr or Barb will come up with something. I just checked another w/t, it said to use Scroll of Spirits Touch to identify the bone, well I don't have said scroll.

I was down on Monastery 2 and had too much stuff so I dragged old Wil up to Udornas and the Smithy and sold stuff, I hate leaving stuff behind. I finally had to use the Awaken Scroll, died a few times figuring it out though.

Wow you beat the Golem that fast, took me forever to bring him down on my first play. Just remember to save, save and save again.

Next you obtain Serena and get to wander the creepy Josefs Tunnels. You think it is bad with Chris and Wil banging into each other, try with three vamps. You can command them to stay also, if you want to go ahead and check, or have one of them check for you. Also, if you don't want them all running amuck and killing everything all at once, use the Defensive stance, Offensive makes them crazy. My first game I forgot to change it in the town and they were killing everyone, what a mess!!

Hi smile

My last visit for tonight wink

Thanks for the tips .... I never refuse a tip lol

I didn't use the bone on Mercurio, I just used conventional weapons.
Maybe that's why I found it difficult duh

To beat the Golem I used the "speed" thing (can't remember it's name) the "aggressive" stance and "claws".
Took me three goes before I succeeded though slapforehead

I'll look out for that scroll then - and see what happens when I identify something. You never know, the item value could go sky high evil

And finally ....
I save practically every five minutes so no worries on THAT score rotfl

Bye for now grin

Cheers.

I don't remember ANY of this! I do know I didn't use the bone on Mecurio either though. I so need to load this game up again - this would be either my 4th or 5th play. Mad, you are really doing great with this one. And yes, I think it was my 3rd play before I figured out how to use that option to make your Coterie stay while you do something. It also helps to lure enemies out to fight too.

I'm determined to get through Avencast first though. Hey, Mad, I'm a level 25 Mage now!

I figured out the "stay" thing when we were subjected to the area with sunlight. That area was so time consuming. I did use the bone on Mercurio when I played before, so hopefully I find it and will use it again. Tomorrow is another day, tonight I am out of reflexes and am going back to my book.

I am even worse on saving, I save as soon as I kill the newest batch of creatures, then look around for more loot, I am soooo greedy.

I loved Bloodlines also, a bit different to play, it is not point and click. I am stuck in my second play of it, eventually I will get back there. Bloodlines you pretty much have to play two-handed, using keyboard or gamepad with the left to move in the different directions, mouse (I use to guide myself and keep one finger on W to move forward). The mouse is also for battle, F to feed, don't remember the others offhand. There is a tutorial in the begining so you know how to use your disciplines. I am playing in God Mode as I don't like to die.It is another game where you would want to save very very often.

Hi smile

So, sounds like quite a different format ....

I can usually manage keyboard/mouse combinations alright but I don't like having to resort to God Mode unless I'm absolutely desperate. Too much of having to do that spoils the fun, for me slapforehead

Thanks for the info, hawkavonpuka thumbsup

I actually need God mode this time as I get flustered in the burning mansion and always get turned around backwards. Just a problem with me. First play I was on my old computer without a good graphics card and not enough ram. I would be in slow motion it seemed and always died. Basically the game is not that difficult, you usually have time to think through your choices ahead of time, or you die and replay it a different way. I think you would like it, you only control yourself, not a group.

Meanwhile in Redemption I am next to off the Golem. I came out of the Monastery a couple of times to sell, shop and boost myself and Wilhelm somewhat. Of course I had to make sure that no goodies were left behind, I think my first play I left lots of stuff. By the way, I again used the Femur on Mercurio and he went down with four or five whacks, that was fun.

Hi smile

I'm in Josef's tunnels now and finding things slightly more difficult - because, in my little group of three, I am the only one who can drink blood from a "victim" ....

My funds are never high to begin with and I have to use a portal scroll to return to town and spend them on blood flasks to keep my compatriots going !! eek

Cheers.
