Also in Phantasmagoria (around the end) if the beasty catches you, he rips you in half. Very gruesome stuff Slarti. It's FMV, so you get too see the real thing. Cathy

The only scene in an adventure game that I thought was gruesome involved a cat in Midnight Nowhere. I thought the game was pretty good otherwise. The only game that I have been completely put off of because of gruesome content would be Silent Hill 4.

I have to say that the first Silent Hill and the first Resident Evil totally freaked me out. I don't think I would have played them alone in a dark empty apartment at the time. Unfortunately I've been tainted on stuff like that now and haven't seen anything since that's affected me like that.
PS: Slartibartfast, thought I would comment on your cool name as I am just finishing up reading the whole series again.

I think I'm odd! I don't watch gruesome/horror movies (except by Mr Tarantino) and yet gruesome pc games don't bother me at all. I wonder what the difference is. But the death in BS3 really moved me and shocked me and like George I needed to compose my self afterwards.
