I have just started this game.

I am in the small sitting room? Where is the piston? Or where is the key to open the laser locked safe????

Also I have tried the slider puzzle in the museum//What is the secret to this///the picture offers little or no clue????

pj,

You have to open safes and they will eventually have clues or objects that will open another safe somewhere in the house - maybe even on another level of the house.
This game is not linear as far as rooms. That is part of the puzzle of the mansion.

As for the slider puzzle - the clue is one that you see all the time - in the map and at the intro of the game.
