I just finished Dracula Origin. I have been looking forward to this for so long - especially since I have played the other ones. I have to say that I'm really disappointed. I realize they kept Dracula from emerging until the end, but they didn't do a very good job building up the suspense. I was fairly bored until he got to the castle and even then the last confrontation was lackluster. I have to admit, though, the last game I finished was The Lost Crown . . . and it's going to take a whole lot to top that.

Hi, tinagoss

While I do respect your opinion...I have to disagree grin and here is why...

I thought the developers did a great job of keeping Dracula in hiding until Van Helsing found him....Now if you ever watched any Dracula movies ..you will notice Dracula is a whispering BAT..He is always seen last minute...Just for that bite.. lol

I loved the suspense of finding him...When I did see him ..I was in total eek shock... How good-looking he was...But I kind of knew that anyway lol

I just can't wait for the next game thumbsup

I enjoyed the game. It was more fun than I expected it to be, and had a nice variety of puzzles.

I was puzzled by the ending too. Can someone explain it. Can I post my questions here about it? I just want to know who was at the Duchess' house. Was it Dracula? How? Or was it Van Helsing? What happened to Mina? I really liked the game but the end was confusing.

Thanks to anyone who answers!

EDIT: Never mind! I wish I could delete my post because I found the answer. Sorry!

Just wish I knew how the duchess knew him when he visited.

I enjoyed the game very much. I think it's the biggest attraction of the adventure games - following the traces, looking for the evidencies and finding the target at the very end of the game. And that's what Dracula Origin was all about. I liked all puzzles, interesting, pertaining to the plot, mostly not very difficult, and the difficult ones beautifully explained in the MaG's wt. The end of the game was a little different. I was surprised how easy it was defeating Dracula. He even didn't try to do anything. May be he didn't need to do anything? That's why he was sitting in the chair? I'd like to find some answers and appreciate any help. thumbsup wave

I haven't finished it yet,but am enjoying it immensley. Beautiful enviroments and stunning graphics, very nice music (though repetitive at times...you CAN turn it down, though),and believable voice acting.
Story progresses well, and puzzles are good, though not headahce-inducing.
A good game so far,IMHO.
Darkness Within and Lost Crown get my vote for the 2 best games I've played so far this year (and I've played a lot of adv games this year),but this one is going to wind up high on the list.

I finished Dracula yesterday.
As Darleen i was very impressed about the good looking boy – but isn’t that the way the vampires win their prey over? By good manners and a marvellous look.
The contrast between Dracula’s appearance and his soul/psyche couldn’t be bigger. Dracula’s account in his diary about the way he killed the people at the banquet – what a destroyed soul could do this?

As for the end: I was disappointed at first. But then I realised that Van H. hasn’t used the knowledge of the papyri. And what about the shield - why didn' t he use ist against Dracula? Remember, that Dracula was before Van H. in Egypt: so is the weapon really the one with magical power???
Dracula seems to have planed better than it appears at the first sight – he even seems much acquainted with the duchess. I didn’t defend himself, as springchicken pointed out.
I hope this all leads to a second part? bravo

I really liked this game, I was completely hooked. A few too many 'puzzle' puzzles for me (I'm not a fan!)but they were so well integrated they never felt as if they were there just for the sake of it! smile

I enjoyed the game but not really the ending, yet another game that seems to need a second part, I don't mind second parts when the first one has a self standing and clear end even if it can be followed by a second part, like Siberia I as an example.

As for the ending itself I think that

Click to reveal..
may be the two bodies (Dracula and Mina) were "inverted" and then Mina was killed instead of him but that would not explain why her body would disintegrate with that weapon

About the duchess knowing him I even have less idea.

Whoever knows what this ending means please PM me if they don't want to do a general post. Lately I seem to miss to many meanings at the end of games, adventure and even RPG as The Witcher, duh

I know I'm not a regular poster, so people might think I'm weird for saying this. In the tapestry at Dracula's castle that showed all the knights and their shields: did anyone else think that Dracula looked like Johnny Depp in that?

I'll slink away now...

Carla,

I'm almost at that section of the game, I'll take a close look when I get there. wink If you haven't played Dead Reefs, the main character looks a lot like Johnny Depp too. smile wave

Wait, maybe I'm thinking of the wrong picture. I thought for sure it was the tapestry next to the portrait of the lady that had the pink ribbon scraped off her hands. Or, maybe I'm thinking of the portrait of Dracula that was also in a puzzle to get to the coffins where Harker was. I'm so confused.

I do love that pic of Depp you posted though. Makes smoking look glamorous, huh?!

Yes! I double checked. It's the oil painting that is also used for the puzzle to crypt.

Same here. All I got out of it was that
Click to reveal..
Van Helsing hadn't defeated Dracula for good and he'll be back next game. I also got the sense that he might be pretty much unkillable because of one of the descriptions earlier in the game -- that all Van Helsing could hope to do would be to banish him to another dimension temporarily -- but that even only a couple of seconds of banishment would be enough to break his connection to Mina and save her.

You have to know that any game titled Dracula: Origins has to have Dracula alive at the end. After all this is like a prequel not an ending.

You are right Dracula is alive and kicking. Last night I thought about Van Helsing destroying Dracula's coffins because if not he could resurrect again, maybe he didn't destroy all of them and at least we had seen another coffin (not in the castle though) in Godalming Manor.
