Greetings.

I just got started with NiBiRu and have played only to the point that the hero escapes from the murdered girl's apartment. He exits the elevator in the lobby, and then.... nothing.

No movement, no nothing, and especially, no cursor. Dude just stands there. I can't move him. What is supposed to happen?

Perhaps the solution is for some kind person to send a saved game just after this moment. Would that be possible? I know it's an old game and all but if anybody has it loaded up...?

Many thanks in advance.

I think it's supposed to play some videos at that point.
Try turning off unnecessary background programs like antivirus and software firewalls while playing the game. If that doesn't help, maybe you're missing codecs and installing radgametools would help.

I assume you're using XP.

If you need a save, try asking in the Hints forum. Hints usually handles saved games.

I believe someone else had this same exact problem a short time ago. I'll check my saves when I get a chance. laugh

Sorry, I searched on GB but never did turn up that previous complaint like yours. I KNOW I saw it but can't find it.

I've otherwise been busy but I'll see what I can find out now about my saves and get back to you.

I've uploaded my save collection for Nibiru here
http://www.sendspace.com/file/iiyl48

I think save.5 is closest to where you are and still after where you are. It is in front of the building where Barbora worked.
Save.4 is in the attic.

So this is truly bizarre. I uninstalled the game, downloaded Jenny100's saves, reinstalled the game, put the saved games into the Nibiru file, and opened the game up. I go to the load the saved game suggested, and my old saved games, which should have been uninstalled, are in the first six save slots.

I can of course start with save game #7, and will probably do that, but it does mean I will miss some of the game, and anyway how the heck did those old games show up?

Some games, in uninstalling them, retain the saves in case you reinstall the game so I'm guessing where you put the new saves isn't where the game wants them. Check for where your old saves are located now and put the new ones in that location. If you want, you could then delete the old saves at the same time. laugh

I figured it must have been something like that, and tried to search out where it hid the saves. No luck. No matter though... on with the game. I missed the scene in the girl's office building.

Usually games either put their saves in the game folder, in a subfolder inside the game folder, or in a folder in My Documents.

If you can't find the saves, you can try making a save and doing a Windows Search for files created or modified on the current day.

Hello esube

There are 2 folders where you could put the saved games.

  • (A) C:\Program Files\The Adventure Company\Nibiru

The first folder is the where the game is installed.
  • (B) C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\The Adventure Company\Nibiru

The second folder is the local user data. The above is for a Vista computer. All your saves will go to the AppData\Local\... folder.

When you uninstalled Nibiru, the AppData\Local\... folder is not removed. Only the Program Files\The Adventure Company\Nibiru is removed. This can be good as your saved games are never deleted when you uninstall Nibiru.

If your copy of Nibiru is from the Adventure Collection Vol. 1, then replace"The Adventure Company" with "JoWood".

You can put the saved game in either (A) or (B). To simplify this discussion, just use (B).

Note that you need to change the <user name> to your user name or computer name]. Let's say it is "boomer" so the path is:

C:\Users\boomer\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\The Adventure Company\Nibiru

Cut and copy the above path to windows explorer. The folder will open and you can see your existing saved games. You can copy the saved game from Jenny to this folder.

You need 2 files to simulate a game save in your computer. The 2 files, as per Jenny, are:

  • save.5
  • savepic.5 (this file is the bitmap image file for preview photo)

If your existing saved games has save.5 and savepic.5, you can rename the files to a different number to do the copy.
This should work. This is a fun game. Enjoy.

p/s: I'm the gamer Billy Bob is refering to. Thanks again.

Hello esube

If you are not an "expert" in computers or the local app data, I would recommend to use (A).

Remember, if your copy of Nibiru is from the Adventure Collection, the "The Adventure Company" folder should be replaced by "JoWood". So it is either

  • C:\Program Files\The Adventure Company\Nibiru or
  • C:\Program Files\JoWood\Nibiru

    Use the following steps:
    • 1. Launch Nibiru, note the number of saves in the game. Let's say you have 7 existing saves. Quit Nibiru.
    • 2. Take save.5 and savepic.5 from Jenny. Since you have 7 existing saves, you will make save.5 into save.8. Rename the files .5 to .8.
    • 3. Copy the save.8 files into the C:\Program Files\The Adventure Company\Nibiru folder.
    • 4. Launch Nibiru. Scroll the save games to save 8. Load the game and enjoy.

  • If you are familiar with the windows local app data, you can use (B). Note that the path given is for Vista, it is different in XP. Also, in Vista, this folder is hidden and is an operating system folder. But you can copy and paste the path on windows explorer to display the contents of the folder without having to change any folder settings.

    Enjoy.

Hi Mission. Thanks for the advice. As it happens the gamesaves from the original are not in either of those directories, but I did put Jenny's saves in the The Adventure Company/Nibiru directory. When reinstalling, the old saves (wherever they are!) overwrote the same-numbered ones from Jenny's files.

The old saved games don't show up on any search, or on the directory of "Recently Changed" files. So it's still a mystery to me. But as I've moved on with the game it's all academic now.

Thanks for your help.

Sorry to bump this thread but I've experienced the same problem as the original poster. I tried to download the save game but the link says it has been deleted. Is there any chance you could upload it again please Jenny?

Thank you!

I'll upload it again.
The trouble with sendspace is that they delete your uploads if no one is using them.

OK try this

Remember you can't install saves by clicking them.
With the uploaded file, you need to unzip it to the folder where your game is keeping its saves on your computer. I'm not sure where that would be on Vista. Maybe in a subfolder named after the game inside your user's Documents folder?
