Finally I finished the game, after owning it for about a year. A very good game, in my opinion. I love the great amount of detail that the makers put in for the game characters, including photos, voice overs, character journals and characters'little personal touches with their belongings. How did Jonathan Boakes and company come up with all these photos and people's faces for the characters? I liked the ambient music, the creepy sound effects, and the animations of certain objects in many scenes. I loved the EVP/EVM device that allowed the main character to see spirits. However, I would have loved to have a clearer and more definite game ending, like where does the main character end up and how does he resolve the scenario that he was tossed into? (the last we knew, the quest giver saw him going towards the lighthouse.) Also, the ending hinted at resolving the past mistakes of Malakai. I mean, in what way? The non-player characters were all dead. If they were not brought back to life, the main character would still be held accountable for this. But still, I enjoyed this game. A lot.

Now you can venture forth into DArk Fall II: Lights Out, although in my opinion it didn't hold a candle to The Journal. Ana

Dark Fall I: The journal was a 2004 game while part II a 2006 game. I'm not sure I could afford to procure a copy of Dark Fall I. I'm playing Barrow Hill next. I hope it is as good as Dark Fall II.

Ahhhh, my bad! I thought you finished the first one. You can snatch up Dark Fall in the Trading Post for under 10 dollars. It comes up quite a bit. Ana

I'm with Ana on this one! I played Lights Out before The Journal, too. In fact, LO was my first adventure game aside from the Nancy Drew games so it's a bit special to me. I love it for what it is but The Journal... now that's a spectacular game. Definitely get your hands on a copy of it if you can. And Barrow Hill & Scratches are great game choices, too.

It seemed to me that he changed history, so that the events he was investigating never happened. Which of course creates a paradox.

Definitely check out The Lost Crown. It's amazing. But honestly, for pure creepiness, I still like The Journal the best out of all Jonathan's games. I think it's because you are so completely alone for most of the game. In Lost Crown, you can check in with humanity. Even in Lights Out, you have limited interaction with Polly. But the relentless "aloneness" of The Journal is what really makes that game stand out in my mind.
