Haven't finished the game yet, I have just played for about 2 hours and find it really difficult. There are some clues but not much; the story so far seems to be pretty interesting but most of the time I have no idea what I am doing and why. It's basically a case of trial and error, so far, although some of the puzzles worked fine once I realised what I had to do. Still, I find it a little awkward
that the guy just walks into the house, doesn't even try to find the housekeeper to talk to her and just starts to work away on his brother's experiments.
It's a little bit like Michael in Scratches exploring at random and doing things just because he feels like doing them without giving the player clues as what to do next.
I like the atmosphere a lot; it's gloomy and eerie, reminds me a lot of Scratches - though it's not as scary as Scratches (does it get scary?). But the style is similar, especially with the music and the main character not having a voice - this is highly disturbing since the guy gives no clues whatsoever as what to do next. You need to read all the documents very carefully, pick up everything and try not to miss anything. It's a little like Myst only with a more interesting topic. After two hours of playing, it hasn't really gripped me because, so far, I miss a proper storyline. What I figured out so far is
that the main character's brother has carried out some weird experiments that seperate the mind from the body, that he went too far in one of these experiements and that he's now somehow lost in The Shimmering World - and the main character has to come to his rescue.
Not much, really. I'm waiting for more substance to the story, like some dramatic changes or events - the potential surely is there to confront the guy with some hideous stuff from his or his brother's past.
As for the puzzles, so far they are pretty Myst-ish though not quite as hard as the Myst-puzzles. But there are lots of mechanical puzzles in this game - not something I like. Well. I'll keep playing on until the end. Maybe this turns out to be a great game, who knows?
