Hey guys, and gals.
Since I beat the lost crown, dracula origin, and dracula 3 I have been fiddeling with a few different games and I'm not sure why, but most of them can't seem to keep my attention for the time being. Now I do have a couple requests for ideas, it should be a newish game with apealing graphics (generally I'm not a graphics guy but for this I have found that to be really engrossed I have to like them and find them apealing) have a good story and a generally creepy atmosphere. I can't say as I found either dracula game very creepy, perhaps dracula 3 in a few parts but it often lead up to something then never got to anything, it would just subside and the feeling would return to a comfort state.
One I have been thinking about is Scratches. Should I try that one? (first person perspective or panning view doesn't bother me I enjoy both first person or third person aka point and click). I also tried dead reefs but regretfully I had to give it up after hours of trying to play it cause I had some sort of control glitch that I could not get rid of or fix. Please throw out some ideas, I'm still new to the adventure scene and I feel that I need to be engrossed in another game but one that has a better ending then the lost crown or origin.

You should try Sherlock Holmes; The Awakened or the "Beyond the Spirit's Eye' games (There are at east two.) They'll all make you wish you had kept the lights on.

Thanks for the links, seeme like most are pointing to beyond the spirits eye, but I tried a demo of one of the last half of darkness and found it a bit more "Boo" scary then for it to actually have a creepy atmosphere. Is Limbo of the lost any good? There must be some more horror or murder mystery game of decent quality out there right? hmmm, the awakened eh, thats the Cthulhu sherlock one rihgt??? Hmmmm, interesting

I'd recommend Darkness Within: In Pursuit of Loath Nolder.
And a slightly older game, but still a cracker: Black Mirror

I wouldn't recommend SH: The Awakened for Cthulhu fans. As an HPL fan, I was really disappointed by the way Frogwares marketed the game as a SH game with elements of the Cthulhu mythos inside, compared to what the game really is. The game I played through was not what I expected for a SH vs Cthulhu worshippers... I'm not even sure His name was mentioned once during the dialogs (but I may be wrong on that). I would have liked to find something Gaslight-ish and more grandiose. In a different genre but in the same subject, and with elements of adventure also, I strongly recommend Dark Corners of the Earth, which is really scary and really tied to the Cthulhu mythos.

Hi "Jump Out & Boo" stuff is not an ingredient I look for in a scary game as I feel it can get rather juvenile. I do find the two Phantasmagoria games have nicely unsettling atmospheres - if you have the facilities or interest to play such old games of course .... And I personally enjoyed Scratches very much and also liked Sherlock the Awakened Cheers. Mad

I'll also add to the suggestions for Phantasmagoria (great haunted house game) and Sanitarium (still give me chills.) I'd be wary of Phantasmagoria: A Puzzle of Flesh. A bit too much like an interactive David Cronenberg film for me. It's very good for what it is, but not for the squeamish. I'll throw in suggestions for Bad Mojo (get the readily available Redux version, check out inferno's review infact!), Dark Fall: The Journal (sticks in the brain like peanut butter to the roof of your mouth), and The Dark Eye (leaves me breathless every time).
