This past summer while at Fry's Electronics I realised there's no age barrier aimed at gaming. A clerk, probably 18, and I (76)discussed FPS's MMORPG's and RPS's - you would have been proud of me because I contributed as much to conversation as he. He probably played the games better than I but so what? - We both showed enthusiasm. I believe gamers have a special gene that non-gamers don't and some of us have a double dose.

I'm smiling all through this thread as I'm thinking, "Gee, I was 50ish when my husband bought our first computer, way back in 1980, Radio Shack's TRS-80, anyone out there remember it?" I can recall the Dancing Demon, a little stick figure that did a little dance routine to a lively tune. An early graphic that seemed quite remarkable at that time of text adventures. It was text and keyboard for the early games. When the first mouse came out my impression was that "This will never work!" I was so used to arrow keys that it took me some time to get the hang of the mouse, but now I would be lost without it. So I was wrong for sure. My husband worked in an electronics lab where there were several guys having fun playing Adventure, the first text game, also known as Colossal Cave. Probably why he bought the computer. He no longer plays games (his hobby is radio-controlled model electric planes and helicopters) but these days we have HIS and HERS computers and both are on all day long. Anyway, by now you have all figured out that I'm at least 80 and I will admit to being 85 last August, just so you don't guess any higher than that. <grin> (From the old days!)
To love is to be happy with!

I just love all of your answers and also being one of the young at heart. I just turned 12...again as I have each year for the past, oh I forget!!! Actually I seem to remember that I am 55 and the games keep me sharp(er) too. I love my Razer Diamondback mouse and hope to have it cremated with me waaay in the future!!

Before I started to buy my games from InteracCD I use to buy them here at a store which has since closed. I remember one time buying 10 or more games all at the same time. The clerk made an off the cuff remark "Your grand children, sure are lucky to have a grand father like you" I responded "I don't have any grand children" He replied "Here you go pops, have fun" I found this very

A couple of years ago, while working in special ed, I was helping a young man with his letters. I told him to write "Z" as in.....hhmmm....oh Zelda, a character in a game I like to play. He said, wait a minute...YOU play Zelda??? I told him I sure do. He was amazed all day, kept saying, I can't believe YOU play Zelda! Yep, even people near 50 play games, even Zelda. I love to talk to Best Buy and Fry employees. They just don't think a middle aged lady is gaming. I even tried Guitar Hero with the Best Buy guy, but I told him I would stick to adventure and casual games! Hey even grandmas need to have fun! My grandson comes over and asks me to get out the "puter" and play a game with him. Except with him I play Muppets right now. Never, never to old to play! Keeps you young! Koalanut

Sierramindy, you are 85????!!!! What an inspiration and hopegiver (is there such a word?) you are! I'm already wondering if I am ever put into a retirement home if I can take my computer and games with me.

I am 48, and have been playing games across all platfoms since at least the early 1990's. It all started with the original Nintendo and Mario Brothers. The first PC game I ever played was The Legend of Kyrandia, and I was hooked.I doof my hat to all the "older" gamers out there, I think you guys are great!! I hope some day to be able to say I am 80 or 90 something and still playing. So to all my Boomer friends no matter what your age, keep playing, it keeps you young at heart. And don't worry about what other people say, do what makes you happy.
