We talked about it few days ago, but today Dtp released the video in english: Hamburg, 2008-10-20 – A new video showing some gameplay of Memento Mori on www.mementomori-game.com presents some characters and locations for the first time in motion. The video starts with an impression of Colonel Ostankovic from St. Petersburg police. He is upset about the burglary in St. Petersburg’s Hermitage, but doesn’t want to cause a stir just yet. Thus the main characters Max and Lara have to investigate undercover. Max’s investigation leads him to the catacombs of the famous Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg. During World War II its invaluable collection was transferred there for protection. In the game, the Hermitage Museum, including the Winter Palace, was modelled in every detail after the originals. The smart Russian policewoman Lara follows a trace of the stolen painting to Scotland. She must find a way to enter the estate of a rich art collector without getting spotted. The video closes with a preview of the abbey of the secret order of “Ikuinen Nukkuja”, which seems to be involved in the crime. The abbey lies in the woods of Finland and will be presented in the game at different times of the day. In the abbey’s garden Max meets a novice who is strangely familiar to him. Memento Mori boasts 46 locations across five European countries. Max and Lara travel to France, Russia, Scotland, Portugal and Finland to unveil the truth behind the mysterious art theft in the Hermitage. Close-ups and changes of perspective during dialogues, splitscreen-views as well as many rendered cut scenes make the mystery thriller a cinematic experience. The video is downloadable from the official site HERE, in homepage (scroll down today's news)

The same trailer called Memento Mori: Locations and characters in gameplay video but in english . So why the company that made the game cant release the game also in english ? I can see its already in english . Or at least put an option for english sutbtitles text in the german version . This is crazy that this game release in german and then we have to wait so long for the english version . What so hard to put english text ? According to this trailer wich show gameplay with english voice and text the game in english is ready .

Hi chocolade -- getting a game released in another language is a big deal -- the developer and original publisher have to find an English language publisher with the clout to get the game distributed on store shelves in either the UK or the US or Australia, etc. That's not easy to do. Then the dialog and any text in the game (journals, for instance) have to be translated, rewritten from the translation, revoiced, and any graphics in the game environment with language on them (signs, for example) have to be redone. Some pubishers insist that the characters' lip movements should be resynched with the new language, which can also be a tremendous amount of work. In general, from what I understand, publishers don't put English language subtitles under a (for instance) game that is voiced in German because they are afraid that no English language publisher would then agree to publish the game, since many sales opportunities would disappear before the work of full localization could take place.

Here's the press release of the mini-game, explaining more details: Flashgame based on mystery adventure game Memento Mori: Saving stolen paintings before release Hamburg/Germany, October 24th, 2008 – A flashgame based on the PC adventure game Memento Mori is now ready to be played at www.mementomori-game.com.In the PC adventure a precious painting is stolen from St. Petersburg’s famous Hermitage museum by the secret order “Ikuinen Nukkuja” (engl. “The Eternal Sleeper”). Russian policewoman Lara and a former art-counterfeiter named Max soon find traces of a religious conspiracy. In the flashgame, the secret order has stolen not only one, but dozens of masterpieces and hidden them inside the monastery. Exploring the abbey and saving the stolen paintings promises to be an enjoyable way for gamers to shorten the wait for the PC game to hit the shelves. As a PC game, Memento Mori features 3D environments full of atmosphere in which players will hunt the thiefs by combining hints and solving puzzles. The flashgame by contrast is bringing the graphical style and feel of classic arcade games back to life. Quick reactions are crucial here: The player moves his character – either Max or Lara – with the four arrow keys through the monastery. Stolen paintings from different floors of the building must be gathered. At the same time, the player must avoid monks patrolling the corridors watching out for intruders. After the first level, additional security cameras will make things even more difficult. Max and Lara mustn’t be caught on tape! If they do, the player has to start all over again. Naturally, in the PC adventure there is much more to lose for Max and Lara – their lives, their health even their minds. dtp aims to release Memento Mori worldwide, starting in the German speaking territories on October 31st, 2008.

Hi all,
So when is the actual release date going to be? This thing has been continuously pushed back. It looks really interesting and is on my "to get" list.
Regards,
Barry
