Great News CSI Fans! The time has finally arrived!

Quote:
SAN FRANCISCO - November 18, 2008 - Today Ubisoft announced that CSI: NY® - The Game for the PC has shipped to store shelves. CSI: NY - The Game has an ESRB rating of "T" for Teen and will be available at the manufacturer's suggested retail price of $29.99.

For the first time in the CSI video game series, CSI: NY - The Game will allow you to play as actual characters from the hit TV show. The video game features a brand-new graphic novel art style, interactive mini-games and interrogations, as well as original cases crafted by writers from the "CSI: NY" television series. Additionally, Golden Globe® winner Gary Sinise, Melina Kanakaredes and the rest of the show's primary cast have all
contributed their voice and likeness to the video game, adding to the authenticity of the interactive adaptation of CBS's "CSI: NY" television series.

You can view the trailer Here.

Happy Gaming,

The trailer shows FMV sequences -- I'm assuming that's not in the game, or we would have heard all about it. I'm curious, once someone gets their hands on the game, to find out if video from the show is actually in the game.

safc, InteractCD has excellent service and reasonable prices to ship to the UK. They can be accessed via the yellow highlight on the top of the forum.

I purchased this game as a digital download on the Ubisoft site and it has compelled me to post my first message, but not for a good reason. I just wanted to warn everyone that this is a CASUAL game. It is sort of a mix of HOG and mini-games (some really annoying). For me, it just isn't up to par with the other CSI games. I should also mention that it is short. It is actually only four cases. You cannot unlock/download the fifth case until 2009. I played two cases and went back to playing the new Nancy Drew casual game! Anyway, I wanted everyone to have all the facts before they decide to purchase this game, since the price is on the high side. Personally, I feel a little misled about this game and am disappointed overall. I would have felt better about the game if we were told it was a casual game from the start. Hopefully, other people are getting much more enjoyment from it!

Really???? eek I'm a touch speechless if that is the case because nothing has given any indication that this is anything but a new CSI in the series. I'm perplexed.

btw... welcome to GameBoomers.

EDIT: I just went to the official site and browsed through screenshots, clips and descriptions and no where can I find anything about it being a HOG. Does it actually list items to find in a scene?
The mini games have always been there and they sare my favorite part. It's what makes you feel like a real technician on the scene. Are these different that those?

I have sent off an email to Legacy to see of I can get answers to confirm the gameplay.

I considered it to be part HOG. Here's what happens:
Click to reveal..
You arrive at a scene and have to click on items at random. At the bottom of the screen are blank pages where shapes of items eventually appear. These are the items you should actually be looking for. A few relate to the case but most are just random items (like entire coat racks and calculators). Some items in a scene are small and fuzzy. Also, a few times I had no idea what the shape was supposed to be! There is a hint system like a normal HOG, though. You click on it and it highlights the item in the scene.

Also, I don't think the mini-games are anything like the ones in the other CSI games. Like you, I enjoy those games and they seem related to being a technician. Here are some of the mini-games in this game that I remember (there are a lot):
Click to reveal..
One sudoko puzzle. A lot of matching item games, puzzles, and spot the differences. A couple cryptograms. A weird one where you are given shapes of items and you have to find the word for them in an article.

The most annoying mini-games to me were:
Click to reveal..
There were at least two type of puzzles that required a steady hand: When you see blood you have to draw a line around it, which makes no sense to me. For the other one you have to match two items but you have to draw a line between them and there is stuff in the way. When dusting fingerprints the fingerprint doesn't stay visible. You have to quickly dust and quickly apply tape to it before it disappears. I also didn't like the way they did dna and other substance testing: there are a bunch of different objects swimming in a dish and you have to pick them up and put them in their own designated areas. The good news is you can request a hint and you can skip two puzzles per case.

I was shocked by all of this, too. I thought maybe I had the wrong CSI NY game! That being said, this is just my humble opinion. I don't want to discourage anyone from buying it, but I thought people might want to know the actual gameplay and that it is nothing like the other CSI games.

On a positive note, thank you for the welcome, Ana. I am relatively new to adventure games and find this site very helpful and the people very friendly.

Samantha, I want to thank you so much! I have bought every CSI and never have I seen it look like you have described. I was ready to download it and than read your post. I would have been so disappointed. I am glad for once I didn't get impatient and waited for someone elses review of it with a hands on experience.

This is so sad, why did they mess with the old format of CSI it worked for me. Just my opinion, but in my case I will pass on this one. I ordered Chronicle Mysteries ritutal instead.

I agree with SSM. This game is a HOG. Very pricey though, I think. I don't mind paying $30.00 for a good adventure game, but Hogs are usually cheaper.
The game is not bad though, just does not resemble any of the other CSI games.

Well, I'm disappointed! I love HOGS, and I love CSI, but I like them as completely separate entities. sad

On the bright side, I couldn't afford to buy the new CSI game right now anyway, and now I don't feel at all deprived. lol

Yes, the game is indeed a casual game. On the brightside for those of you that haven't puchased yet, it will most likely be on BigFish shortly. grin

There is a great customer review on amazon.com titled, CSI for Dummies, that I wish I had read before buying this game. It mentions a lot of the same issues I mentioned in my posts so I know I am not alone!
