Help - I heard others have had trouble installing this - I shut down AVG and Counterspy before attempting to install - I get the message "installation ended prematurely because of an error" It does not attempt to install at all. I am running Vista & have all the right things to run the game

EDIT I still need help - chose to ignore the error, the game looked as if it has installed but it has not, tried the repair option & my PC is locked up.

It looks like you have moved from Vista problems to DVDROM problems.

Have you examined the surface of the DVD looking for any dust or scratches? Do you have more than one DVD drive? Have you tried manually copying the game.exe file from the DVD to the game directory on your hard drive?

I took the brand new DVD out of the PC & gave it a hard stare & a wipe, Robert. The problem is still happening. I found the bin game application file & my PC says I cannot open it. I have tried right clicking to copy it & I get the swirly wait signal & no action. Had the brilliant idea of copying the whole bin file but it says the game part is read only & cannot be copied.
I am blonde & not very technical & have no idea what to do next. I was really really really looking forward to playing the game .
EDIT please do not laugh. Had the brilliant idea of trying the website - it is all in German.

Just tried double clicking on the game application in the bin file on my dVD drive ( just the one drive ) - it says I may not have the appropriate permissions to access it.

JennyP, do you have the game.exe file installed?

I don't have Vista, so it could be very different, but with mine and several other AVG users, AVG deleted the game.exe file. I had to go back to the DVD and copy that file into the bin folder.

Then I removed AVG as if you are just shutting it down from the bar at the bottom of the screen, it is not shutting the program down. There are 3 files that have to be shut down (in XP you do it from Task Manager) and they are very difficult to convince to go away.

After I did that, the game ran just fine.

Everlight can be a major pain to get running with AVG, JennyP. Try reading this thread and see what DABhand (about 15 posts down in that thread) did to get the game running.

If this is too confusing, I will try to find some different instructions that I can remember being posted in this thread several weeks ago.

Sorry, I looked at the thread & those are not my probs. Shut down AVG before install, checked a previous thread & followed the advice quoted above about cmd before the game deciced it would install. Halfway through the installation it told me it could not find the game.exe bit in the bin folder. I looked in my E drive - the file is there but I cannot open or copy it across. Robert thought there may be a problem on the DVD disc itself & it may be faulty but I want to make sure that is the case before I holler, it would be very embarrassing if the same prob happened again with a replacement disc.

If everything installed except that game.exe it sounds like AVG blocked it or deleted it (again).

Check what Looney wrote -- that you have to shut AVG down in three places, using Task Manager, and that it doesn't want to go away (so you have to recheck using Task Manager to make sure it's gone). Then try copying the game.exe over from the DVD manually.

If you've installed to C:\Program Files, try uninstalling and installing to your My Documents folder instead.

It doesn't sound like the DVD is faulty.

Jenny, I did what you said - no mention of AVG or anything like it in Task Manager, tried to install, same message. I am feeling very frustrated. Sorry it did not work.
I have already tried copying the wretched exe file manually, 3 times and it says it is a read only file & will not copy across. No, I cannot open it at all.

EDIT Had another brilliant idea, went into msconfig & removed AVG & Counterspy from start up, restarted, tried to reinstall ..... and the same thing happened. Could the AVG thing be a red herring ?
Also I notice the game thing in the bin file does NOT have a file extension ( .exe, .dll or . anything. ) Could this be the root of the problem ?

What I would do at this point is uninstall the game completely, run CCleaner on Windows and then on the registry to get rid of any residual entries, either stop AVG in msconfig or in Task Manager (you have to go to the services tab and stop 3 AVG services - avgemc, avgtray and avgwdsvc) and try to install again.

Sorry to hear you're having so much trouble JennyP!Maybe you can try these couple of things:

1)Try installing the game on a different computer that does not run AVG, or Vista.See what happens there.
2)Go to system restore, & set a restore point.Uninstall AVG, & restart your computer, If Everlight installs,there's your problem.Just for the tally books, I use Avira AntiVir: http://free-av.com/
If that doesn't work, then reverse the system restore.Maybe it's a bad disc after all.Sort of doubt that though.

By default Windows does not show common extensions like .exe.
It won't affect anything. If you want to see all extensions, you can configure Windows to do this. But it won't affect the game one way or the other.

Try what Draclvr says. I don't use AVG any more so I don't know details like the three AVG files running in the background. So people who are running AVG will be more help to you.

Jenny, there are lots of folks with the same problem. There is a thread Here and another one Here and several others that I didn't link and in most cases, it is AVG which runs all the time in the background causing the problem.

Once it removes the game.exe file, no matter what you do, the game won't run.

Uninstall AVG, uninstall Everlight, reinstall Everlight, and there's a pretty good chance the game will run fine. That will tell you if it's the disk or AVG.

You can always reinstall AVG

If copying the file over after the game is installed isn't sufficient, it sounds like AVG is also blocking some change to the registry and not just deleting the file.

I had a hard time with Everlight installation to the point that I gave up and traded the game. I later found a copy of So Blonde that I wanted so badly and encountered the same problem that I had with AVG . I found that I had to completely uninstall AVG and that game installed and plays with a dream. Having said that and recongnized that AVG is the core of the problem, my question is this, has anyone with WXP,Spec3 been able to play this game with any other anti virus protection like Norton ect. I don't like the idea of having to uninstall my protetion just to play a game and try as I might I can not completely shut down AVG, it seems to keep running in the background. I want to give Everlight another try but this time w/o all of the drama. I am open to any and all suggestions of a FREE anti virus that will allow me to play Everlight and So Blonde w/o having to uninstall.

I also gave up on Everlight.

I had to expunge AVG from my system & installed the av free checker Chaos recommended above. Everlight is a lovely game now it runs.

Lexxy, I uninstalled AVG and installed Avast. Then installed Everlight and the game ran just fine
