Cara,
I had to reload mine several times to get it to work. I did however get it changed by the supplier and the new one was OK. If it is faulty they should change it. It is not up to the manufacturer.
If you look at the screen when downloading the faulty one of mine showed an error message (very quickly) against particular files but continued to load. Initially I had much the same symptoms as you, but they varied depending on which files did not load.
I think it may be a "www.deck13.com" game but their site only seems to be half working.
Don't know if this helps.

Hi there! Thanks for the help! my laptop's a Dell Inspiron I6400 (I think) 1.66ghz, 10GB free space... The guy that I bought it from seemed to think I needed a patch for it from the maunfacturer, but I've tried 10Tacle, deck 13, kalypso, and www.jackkeane.com and nothing's really helping... (It's the DVD version) THanks for the Welcome!! (sorry for taking so long to reply, there's a bit of a time diff and I can't get on here when I'm at work)

Cara, update DirectX (can be found on the DVD). Update the video drivers at Dell.com. Reboot and try to play JK again.

There's no need to install all the drivers, just the most recent one. Please run DXDiag and look at the screen tab, post the driver version you have here. I can check then if you have the latest one.

my laptop's a Dell Inspiron I6400 (I think) 1.66ghz, 10GB free space... From what I can find, a Dell 6400 can have one of three graphic chipsets: Mobility Radeon X1300 Mobility Radeon X1400 Nvidia Geforce Go 7300 Do you know which one you have? EDIT -- it looks like the 6400 can have Intel Graphics too, at least with the UK version.

ialmrnt5.dll would be the driver for some type of Intel graphics. From what it says on the Dell UK website, this would be Intel 945GM graphics chipset on the Inspiron 6400. There are newer drivers for this model ***here***. I don't know if they'd fix your problem though.

Cara, will you let us know if it worked? Edit: In the BIOS can you adjust the memory assigned to the video card? Set it to it's highest level.

nope didn't work... Had a wee look about while I was waiting for it to download and seems like a lot of people are having the same problem, though it doesnt seem to be fixed on any of the manufacturer's sites. Just noticed that some sites say you need a 1.6ghz processor and some say 2 so went and checked the box... it says 2ghz Think I'm going to have to head to bed here and have another go tomorrow... Firemen to look after in the morning!

Cara, Have you had chance to try a different DVD drive. Although I had to change my first game the replacement one would not load properly on one of my drives I have had no problems with any other game on this drive. It showed errors while loading. However no problem with my other drive. As an experiment I tried loading it on 3 other drives, no problem at all. So if you can borrow/steal an external usb drive try that. No idea if this will help but it is the best I can do.
