Alice, for me I had to put the dwarf's axe in the Altar to continue with that quest. The altar you need to put it in is right next to the clay pits where the brick makers work just a little ways from the village

You do have to do the axe part for that quest. There isn't another way to complete the quest. I was just saying you don't have to do the quest for the main story - you can either do that quest or not do it. Sorry if that wasn't clear.

Yep, I know that, L4L. Snag is the fact yesterday was the first time the game had been loaded since the 15th November. After all that time I can't read my own handwriting, and nowhere can I bring up anything related to it in the Journal. Oh well, I'll go and have another talk to the dwarf. Can remember that every time I mentioned the axe he found another quest for me to do.

Alice, I have the same problem. I keep promising myself I'll make a note in Notepad as to where I am and what I was going to do next, but so far, I keep forgetting to do it

Threads, if he gave you the axe, it will either be in your inventory, or in the altar, if you had already put it there. So perhaps you should check those places first?

If it is a quest item, it might be in the quest inventory across the top.

I almost seem to remember that that axe went into the weapon slot next to your little "rag-doll" picture of Geralt in inventory, Threads. So mouse over any axe you might see there, and if it doesn't say: "Yaren's axe", then I don't think you have it.
If you've had a long break from the game, it might be a good idea to reload a slightly earlier save and talk to the dwarf again, or go to him in your current save and talk to him again. IIRC, the story is that he is concerned about monsters on the road that bother his people; so there is a quest where you have to clear the area around the road of monsters.
Yaren the dwarf is also concerned about the Vodyanoi, though, so after he has given you a quest to resolve the Vodyanoi issue, you first need to speak to Vaska, then you need to convince him to give up your axe, which you need to put in the altar before midnight.
I have also seen another solution to the Vodyanoi story is to simply kill the Vodyanoi warrior who comes to the altar at night, and then tell Yaren, but I personally did it the axe way.
It is important though, that you do the monster clearing up immediately after you receive the quest (before the next morning), otherwise some lumberjack(s) will get killed and you will have failed the quest.

Yes, Moondancer is right about the axe appearing in the weapon slot - but in my game the axe was taken, and my sword fell to the ground. Something I didn't realize until later when I got into a fight - but the sword was still there on the ground when I went back fortunately.

Nickie, I've been playing today in between bouts of trying unsuccessfully to convince daughter that she does not need a new car Anyway, I found out who the werewolf was, let him live, and went back and talked to Carmen and told her about the shirt. Then later I went back and asked if it worked and she said it didn't. Now the quest says I need to use other remedies. My journal doesn't have other remedies,so I went back to the druids thinking they would tell me the other remedies again. But no joy? Will I get this info farther on down the line? I know the heirophant told me several ways when I first talked to him, but I thought they would show up in the journal so I didnt' write them down

When you highlighted that quest on your list, and clicked the hand below for the mini-map, it didn't show where you needed to go? Just curious, if not, where did it show you needed to go?

Well, I remembered about the weapon slot because I did that part fairly recently, and remember being worried about leaving my other sword just lying there.
However, it seems that there is not much at all that I remember about ch.4, except that it is my favourite chapter.
Now I need to ask you guys: Which sword is the best to get as reward for that quest in ch.4 about the dispute between the peasants and the Vodyanoi, where you have to kill Dagon in the end:The silver sword Aerondight, or, the Ceremonial sword of Deithwen?

Nickie, it shows me the sewers, though I have cleared them out several times. I go back and talk to everyone and then if that doesn't shake something loose, I give up and go kill Drowners in the sewer or the swamp. This is the first time I've had that "not sure what I should do" feeling, and now Oldman's tip gives me new direction. I don't think I'll be able to play until tomorrow though.

Forgive me if I'm rehashing what you know very well - you do realize that you click on different quests in your quest log, and for any active quest you can click on the - I think it's a hand- below them to show you where to go on the minimap, right? The little map won't change from a previous quest unless you tell it to. Moondancer, it's really more about how you want to play to get it, although in theory I think the A sword is the better sword. I have to say in theory, because to get the D sword, you have to kill the cow, which I won't do. You can look at the differences of the swords on the gamebanshee equipment data page.

Yep, I finally figured that out. Nothing to forgive--that would be something I would likely overlook. But just lately, it keeps telling me to go to the sewers but I've swept through them many times already. I will sweep through them again and see what happens as well as use Oldman's advice.

That's odd. I can't think of why you need the sewers for that quest, but maybe I've just forgotten something. That's more than possible! Yes, Oldman is as usual quite right about where you need to get the info.

Hi :smile12: I didn't do the "cow" puzzle but I still got both the A and D swords. I chose the A sword as my reward for the Dagon affair and got the D sword later off a "body". I was playing on the side of The Order though so maybe that made a difference ?? Cheers. Mad :happydance12:

Good for you Mad! Well, I can't say if being in the Order made a difference or not in having both swords. Could be that I never picked up stuff. Or it could be that I did pick it up and I've forgotten since last time I played. Can't say I noticed a huge difference with most of the swords in the game except for the A sword and the one you get in the swamp crypt episode.

Theoretically those two swords should have been better - the stats said they were And without the special armour and those two swords, I do wonder if I could have managed the action as the game got nearer to the end. I am not, and never likely to be, the world's best at combat - even Witcher style combat !!

Thanks, nickie, I got the A one last time, so I didn't realise that that is what you actually have to do for the D one. In that case, I shall definitely stick with the A one, thank you. Oh, and especially after what Mad said as well! :holidays:
