Hi Cathy1
Thought I might get a good Myst chat goin'.
Went through all of the games in a total vacuum.
It was after I finished all of the Myst, that I began hunting for more of the same. I found AURA and the SACRED RINGS.
For these I needed walkers. That's how I found Gameboomers.
Cheers and good Yule!

Robar -- you want to discuss the themes in the Myst games? Or other games that are like Myst?

Folks, several of us were at the hints boards about the game Uru: Ages beyond Myst. But we started discussing the Myst games as well. It was suggested we move to the discussion boards instead. Here we are.

After playing the Myst games and it's sequels, I was thirsting for more. When the URU trilogy came out, I grabbed at them and never looked back. As I drug them off my dusty game shelf and started playing the first URU game (as I am now), I fell in love with the atmosphere, graphics, music and gameplay all over again smile

I enjoyed the Uru somewhat too, except for the jumping and a couple timed action type places. That is too difficult for me w/bad hands..but did enjoy the exploration and graphics and all else. enjoyed it when it was online too. miss that a lot!

I ended up in the molten lava about a million times last night at the Eder ages in Uru: Ages Beyond Myst. I finally made it and no more jumping..yet anyway. Still figuring things out (again) smile

I love the fact I can change clothes on my charactor. During this "lava" phase, she is wearing shorts. In the damp areas, she wears long pants LOL. Hey, I love that stuff! No other game that I know of, you have control how a person looks, male or female choice, hair do, hat or no hat, glasses or no classes. Shoe style/color..amazing

I loved the Myst games because they encourage exploration, and that is one of the things I like most about adventure games. There are little things I notice the second or third time through the games, that I didn't notice before. The worlds are so detailed and "real."

you got that right, Becky. My goodness, the work Cyan Studios went through is phenomenal. I never got involved with the online stuff. Just too many people playing together at the same time just didn't appeal to me. Apparently it did to many others, so it was a sad thing for them frown

Hi. I would love discuss any Myst stuff.
And I would be keen to chat about the many Myst-like games out there.
After I got back from URU, I started hunting them.
The first 2 I found were AURA and SACRED RINGS.
They were both really good. Another I found was MYSTERIOUS JOURNEY 2.
I am always on the look-out for Myst-like games.
Cheers

Hi Iva
The 6 plus 1 is the original 6 Myst masterpieces plus REAL MYST.
It is a redo of Myst(#1) in URU-like 3D. Everything about the game is exactly the same as the original, except it has 3D movement. This put a whole new slant on the thing. You can go anywhere in the worlds you want. You can go and examine things you could only wonder about while in the first Myst. It was pretty cool. If anybody is going to play the whole Myst suit, I would recommend starting with REAL MYST as the first. It's a lot more satisfiying than the original.
Nice to chat with yerself!

Hi Becky
I've played Schizm, half way. Don't recognise the other two.
Sorry, I gotta bail here.
But if you're talking about them, I'm all ears.
Back tomorrow...
Becky, could you tell me if I can reply to a post privately?
Cheers

Good Morning Robar. I am forever a Myst Fan and have played them all except the "Real Myst" because I never found it in stores. Some day I hope to play it! I too am a great fan of Aura, Mysterious Journey 2 and Sacred Rings. I'm going to get them out again and start the New Year playing my old favorites!
Merry Christmas Robar!

This thread makes me smile. I too have played and injoyed all of these games. Even better, two years ago I found and purchased; in its big-box original format; brand new; REALMYST on sale for $3.00. How was that for a bargain?

Now, that's a bargain, Haze! I gotta look on my game shelf to see if I have that game. It's been so long since I played (and still have in big box) Myst and Riven.

Hmm, guess not. I see I still have in a big box, "Broken Sword Smoking Mirror" LOL. I think I will check Ebay/Amazon to see if I can find Real Myst.

Thanks for the idea!

Cissy - Do you travel in URU as an avitar or first person?
Have you played Mysterious Journey 2 - Chameleon?
I just remembered I want to find out about ALIDA and SENTINAL.
Where else? Gameboomers reviews, of course.
I'm guessing it is prudent to log off whilst goin' browsing.
Back shortly...
Cheers

Hey! I'm back. I just read the Jenny100 review of SENTINAL.
Cool. It's my next game order. Sold. Totally like what I saw and read.
Thanks for the point!
Best of Yule to ya!

Gerry
Merry Christmas !
You'll find REAL MYST on ebay or amazon.
My wife got it for me for something like $40.
Including shipping.
She gets games for me for at amazingly low prices.
She doesn't play them. Alas...

Merry Christmas !

Robar, I mostly travel as an avatar. I do now and then switch to first person to get a little different perspective. (toggle F1 key to do this) I feel I have better control using the keyboard when I can see her/his movements. I also change clothes depending on environment. I have never played any other game where one can "dress and choose a gender". I love it!

Sentinel and Alida are both great games, IMO. I didn't keep them after playing. I sold them on Ebay LOL.

Another good game is Paradise! You will love this game. At I and many others did smile Check it out, too.

Geo, I will check that out! On Ebay and Amazon, people selling used Real Myst games are asking very high prices. I find it hard to believe (knowing me), I could have missed getting this game in the first place. Time to get a thorough look at my game shelf. I may have just the jewel case w/disk and not a box. I have some games that came in a huge big box. I tossed the box to make room and keep the case/disk only....such as the "Chris Jones" games. Time to take a gander at my supply smile

I couldn't find the free RealMyst at Gamers Gate. But, I prefer a physical disk anyway.

I checked my shelves. Surprisingly, no RealMyst. I DID find, however, my original Myst for Windows 3.1 (jewel case/disk only) and my windows 95/98 Myst version in BIG BOX Masterpiece Edition) LOL.

Was there an updated version for WinXP?
