If anyone is around at this time on Christmas Day? After a very early lunch I actually loaded the Enhanced Witcher for the first time for a month. Had a note telling me I wanted Yaron's Axe to place on the altar. So I went to Yaron. This sounds daft but got the impression, as I'd not played for several weeks he thought I'd ignored his request to make the road safe for his loggers so they had all been killed. He threatened to kill me :lol12: Sooooo......where have I gone wrong? Went back to a saved game where Vaska tells me how to place a gift in the altar for the Sea Lords. Did that and went back to speak to her. The same dialogue. Played dice with her - that didn't change things. Now am not sure what to do. Am near the Altar at 17.00. NOW, do I kill the warrior when he arrives at midnight or not. I did last time but how can I allow him to live. Am going cross-eyed reading the printout of this Thread from the beginning - can anyone remember a) what they placed in the altar at this point? b)Did anybody allow the warrior to live? c)I remember at one point in the original game I obtained a pendant which was important to the game. In other words can anyone tell me if or :rolleyes12:

I'm here, Alice! At least for a little while. We're heading over to some friends' this afternoon and doing Christmas with all the kids tomorrow.
I've played both ways with the warrior. The first 2 times I killed him and this last time I didn't kill him. If the loggers have all been killed already, you may have to leave this particular quest behind because Yaren won't give you his axe. I don't think I placed anything in the altar when I killed the warrior. I think I tried and if it wasn't Yaren's axe, nothing worked. I'd just go on and kill a bunch more Drowners to make yourself feel better!
Why, yes! Of course you're going insane! Right along with the rest of us who are trying to remember what to do in this game!!!
Gardens put to bed. Time for more reading and gaming.

Draclvr - Oh dear. I thought that by starting again from a saved game all would be well. Since my last post I've made another Boo-boo. I now have a solid white wallpaper Thanks for taking the time to post - have a great time this afternoon. God Bless Alice :christmas:

Drac's right Alice. You have to do the quest right away to kill off the monsters on the logger's path, so the loggers don't get killed. If you can go back to a save before you received that quest you can still do it, but otherwise just go on with the game - I think it might change the story line slightly, but you'll certainly still be able to go on with the main story line without doing it.

Oh Gosh - now I'm not sure what to do because I DID kill all those monsters and he was pleased. I even received the recipe for a potion from a logger, plus all his goodies. Is it possible that going back to Vaska I've started that sequence all over again? Have been wondering if I should uninstall the Witcher and load Sacred again. For some reason I've bought Sacred gold which I have never opened. Decisions, decisions.

I just want to mention that I killed those three groups of monsters (it actually shows on your map where they are), and put the axe into the altar before midnight, on the same night.
That is the safest way, I think. First go put the axe there, then go and kill all the monsters, and in the early morning hours, you take what the Vodyanoi warrior put into the altar out, and give it to Yaren, along with the news that you had killed all the monsters (while fighting them- once you have killed all that is necessary for the quest, you will receive a quest update).

Moondancer - have just quit the game. Actually spoke to the Warrior in gobble-de-gook - still no response from Vaska. I'll load again later and visit Yaren because one of the brickmakers mentioned there was a dwarf 'just up the road' in charge of loggers.

Threads, here is a link to the walkthrough on that part of the game, just in case you want to double check what you've done or not done.

Templeton the one you just mentioned is your first time to really choose between the two factors. There are two other ones in the game that really define which side you choose or whether you go neutral. 1. there will be a bank robbery and there you can either choose the Order, The Squirrels or go neutral 2. In chapter 4 you have your final choice and you can again go neutral, with the order, or with the squirrels

You can end the Chapter without taking either side if you want to remain neutral and have access to all the quests in the next chapter. The battle still takes place, but you aren't in it and so you don't make anyone mad at you. Just finish the Tower Quest without going to the battle and the chapter will end

Well, I got my non-censored version of Witcher Enhanced in the mail today. Can't wait to start! Does anyone have any newbie primary suggestions before I load it? Any comments are very appreciated. I'm not concerned about spoilers. I could never play any of these games without a walkthrough. :wink12: Thanks! Andrea :santa:
PS, I've been going back through the past threads about the game and it tends to get me confused a little. :woozy12:

Well, my best advice is not to install it just to see if it works, else you might find that things that need to get done, don't I'd play as easy or the next one because that gives you a visual clue when to click when fighting :wave12:

luv2travel, my advice? Just dive in!
My first time through I did the neutral option. It does make you fight against everyone in the end!

Seriously, my advice is to save often, and be sure to read all the books you can get your hands on, and then sell them back. Remember, running away is your friend, and potions are wonderful. Don't go to meditate in the Swamp as you will come to and be surrounded by bad monsters who want to kill you

L4L, yep, I remember just a little peek I think it was. Templeton, the story line changes according to your choices. For example, what you choose early on with how you deal with the robbers of goods in the first chapter reflects itself in quests that come up later down the road. I don't think you miss out on points whatever you choose, but you do get some different quests. There are lots of side quests that you can miss entirely, no matter what you choose. The main story line however, will kick in one way or another. I guess that was a long winded way of saying yes, whether you choose a side or stay neutral, in one game you won't get all of the quests possible. Luv2travel, what I would recommend is not looking at the walkthrough and not worrying about when something will happen that you've read about in these threads or elsewhere - make it fresh and new and play away until you come against something you can't figure out how to do. That's one of the beauties of the game, in playing it a second time or more and making different choices than you did the first time. I think the walkthrough can be more confusing than helpful sometimes, because you think something should happen and it isn't, or something is happening different in your game than what they've said. Honestly, one way or another, the game will go on - there aren't dead ends. The advice given you is good, and I would add a couple minor things to make it easier - when you can distribute skills to your character, consider selecting the ability to identify and gather plants. It's a help in the early part of the game when you're so broke. When you get to chapter 2, do all the quests you can in town before you venture into the swamps. There are some really mean things there! You've probably seen from the instructions in the manual, but when you click on a quest, you can select "track the quest" below that - it will usually be helpful in seeing where you need to go. Have fun!!!

I didn't notice any difference in going neutral in terms of the quest experience. Remember that if you go neutral, pretty much everyone will keep talking to you, at least up to a point. So for the first little while you can do almost all of the quests, not just those relating to one side. The real choice comes in Chapter 4. If you're concerned about gaining experience, there are various points in the game where you can gain huge amounts of combat experience in a very short time. Very early in Chapter 3, you can go to the Elven Ruins in the sewers, where there is a firepit. Endless Alps will spawn, each worth around 1000 points. They never stop respawning -- and you can rest right there. I use this to gain 2-3 levels; it takes some patience, but it's worth it. Do it early in the chapter, as after you've done the Bank quest the Alps stop spawning.
Also in Chapter 3, in the Swamp, there is a cave where 8 or so Orthisaurs and Wolves respawn about a dozen or so times, for a ton of points.
In the Swamp there is a firepit near the fallen ruins. Sleep there, and prepare for a ton of Undead every night.
In the Swamp, the Wyverns respawn at least once.
In Chapter 4 you get endless combat experience walking around the Fields at night.
In Chapter 4, the undead Noon Bride in the Fields respawns every hour (rest at the nearby firepit) all day, endessly, until you free her soul.
In Chapter 5 at least one of the Swamp caves respawns Basilisks. I got up to level 48 or so in my third game, just to see if I could do it. Geralt is pretty impressive at that point!

Of course, just playing the game without grinding out experience will get you up to level 38-39. If you concentrate on only a few skills -- say, only Aard and Igni, and a couple of sword skills -- you'll do fine, anyway. A character who is predominantly a magic-user can buff up with potions and oils for combat situations.
There's no need to create an uber-Geralt. But it's fun, if you decide to go that route.
I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.
